What's more fun than good old hand-to hand combat? Ranged attacks are safe, but don't give the same amount of thrill and exhilaration as in a melee combat. Games should take this fact in account and stop making so many shooters and rather make games which have close quarters combat, such as Injustice and Mortal Kombat.
Now, I believe most of the fun in a game comes from being able to kill others easily, making you the 'ultimate killer' of the game. The fact that melee combat cannot kill each other easily takes all the fun out of being able to kill each others easily. If you are a ranged shooter, you can stand on high ground and easily pick off enemies, laughing at them while you do so. On the other hand, melee combat has a chance of you dying as easily as you can kill your opponent. And we all know that if you die too much, that takes the fun out of a game.
It is the other way around. In ranged combat often you can get sniped by high level enemies or even not know where the attack is coming from, but in melee you know where the opponent is and beat him up. Plus, most melee games have more health in the characters than ranged games. In melee you can predict your opponent's' attacks after a while and fight back in strategy, but in ranged you can barely withstand a few attacks before respawn. What's more, ranged games have reloading times, melee games do not. Melee games there is actually some competition, but ranged is just luck. For example you could be reloading when suddenly the enemy comes up and ambushes you. Worse, even the enemy didn't know you were there, he was just randomly strolling the map. Melee won't have such scenarios for sure.
Reasons for voting decision: Conduct points go to Pro because Con forfeited two rounds. Convincing arguments goes to Pro because Pro argued that melee games are more fun, Con responded that you can pick off enemies in ranged games, Pro responded that you can get sniped, and Con dropped the point.
