Now this goes without saying but by saying the statement I do not mean ALL rap. I believe people like lil Wayne and soulja boy are awful. In my opinion the greatest rapper and overall musical artist is by far Eminem. Look at his lyrics and try to dispute that. He does have some unserious songs that don't necessarily fit this description. However a lot of his work is genious. In my opinion one oh his greatest songs, infinite, from the 90s is pure genious.

Here is an exerpt:

Ayo, my pen and paper cause a chain reaction
To get your brain relaxing, a zany acting maniac in action
A brainiac in fact son, you mainly lack attraction
You look insanely whack when just a fraction of my tracks run
My rhyming skills got you climbing hills
I travel through your mind into your spine like siren drills
I'm sliming grills of roaches, with sprayed on disinfectants
Twist the necks of rappers 'til their spinal column disconnects
We disinfect then check the monologue, turn your system up
Twist them up, and indulge in the marijuana smog
This is the season for noise pollution contamination
Examination of more cartoons than animation
My lamination of narration
Hit's a snare and bass of track fucked up rapper interrogation
When I declare invasion, there ain't no time to be stare and gazing
I turn the stage into a barren wasteland...

The lyrics and rhyming skills used here are purely amazing.

No. No. No! Rap and hip-hop are terrible! All they are are men with strange clothing talking very fast and throwing in swear words every few seconds. You can get the same lyrical satisfaction with almost any other music genre. And just a small tip: the word "genius" is spelled "genius" not "genious".

My favorite artist/ band is Fun. Ever heard of them? Their most popular songs are "Some Nights", "We Are Young", and "Carry On". They are a mixture of alternative rock and indie pop. Their lyrics can be serious, funny, and even angry depending on the song. The lyrics can even be pleasant, giving the same feeling I would guess you get by listening to rap/ hip-hop.

Fun. is like many other bands, but I just had to use them as my example because, well, they're my favorite. Lol. So yeah, um.. that clears it up for my first statement. See you soon. Oops. I mean hear from you soon. I don't even know what you look like.

You brought up the band Fun which I am a fan of as well. However the statement I made was a general statement that rap is the superior genre lyrically. In every genre you have your fair share of untalented artists.. For example, 2chainz in rap, as well as some very bad artist in the "alternate rock" category. On the point, you stated, "All they are are men with strange clothing talking very fast and throwing in swear words every few seconds." For the elite talented rappers, this is very far from the truth. Clothing means nothing, as I stated before this is about lyrics. Talking fast again means nothing. What I am referring to is reading the written lyrics, not the whole song in general. I would like to also give an example of another artist that I believe proves the statement of the superiority of rap lyrics. Macklemore.
Now I know this fits the description strange clothing, as seen in his recent hit, Thrift Shop. However, I believe lyrically with his more serious songs is a very talented writer.

Excerpt from Otherside by Macklemore

Now he just wanted to act like them
He just wanted to rap like him
Us as rappers underestimate the power and the effects that we have on these kids
Blunt passed, ash in a tin, pack being pushed, harassed by the feds
The fact of it is most people that rap like this talkin' about some s**t they haven't lived
Surprise, you know the drill
Trapped in a box, declined record sales
Follow the formula violence, drugs, and, sex sells
So we try to sound like someone else
This is not Californication
There's no way to glorify this pavement
Syrup, Percocet, and an eighth a day will leave you broke, depressed, and emotionally vacant
Despite how Lil Wayne lives
It's not conducive to being creative
And I know 'cause he's my favorite
And I know 'cause I was off that same mix
Rationalize the s**t that I'd try after I listen to dedication
But he's an alien, I'd sip that s**t, pass out or play Playstation
Months later I'm in the same place
No music made, feeling like a failure
And trust me it's not dope to be 25 and move back to your parent's basement
I've seen my people's dreams die
I've seen what they can be denied
And "weeds not a drug" - that's denial
Groundhog Day life repeat each time
I've seen Oxycontin take three lives
I grew up with them, we used to chief dimes
I've seen cocaine bring out the demons inside
Cheatin' and lyin'
Friendship cease, no peace in the mind
Stealin' and takin' anything to fix the pieces inside
Broken, hopeless, headed nowhere
Only motivation for what the dealer's supplying
That rush, that drug, that dope
Those pills, that crumb, that roach
Thinkin' I would never do that, not that drug
And growing up nobody ever does
Until you're stuck, lookin' in the mirror like I can't believe what I've become
Swore I was goin' to be someone
And growing up everyone always does
We sell our dreams and our potential
To escape through that buzz
Just keep me up, keep me up
Hollywood here we come
