My position is that regulations, when not carried out by corrupt people, ensure safety and a fair playing field for everybody. I am pro-state on this topic.

Thank you for this debate, and may the best man win.

My stance is that government regulations do more harm than good, and that the only way to ensure a level playing field is through deregulation and competition. Whilst the government may impose regulations upon people for the reason that you state, equality, in the end this all comes down to the fact that regulations only hurt the very people and companies the government is trying to aid.

For a simple example, take a minimum wage law. These are enacted by those entrusting state policy to help bring about greater equality. However, this thinking is highly flawed. If we implement such regulation, enterprises that can afford to pay such a wage will pay it, whereas companies that cannot shall be forced to either lay off employees or go out of business, and often the former shall lead to the latter. Simply, government regulation often leads to great inequality.

Also, you make a point to say "not corrupt people". How, exactly, can you trust any government leader to be incorruptible, and what exactly do you define as corrupt? Any government leader can be deemed as corrupt by anybody, and people do change their positions. Nobody elected can be fully trusted to carry out their campaign promises.

In short, only through true competition can a level playing field be achieved.
