The burden of proof is on whoever makes a claim. By instigating this debate and agreeing to defend the claim that religion is not a drug for people, Con assumed the burden of proof in this debate. That's my opinion. Con did not stipulate that Pro had to shoulder the burden of proving the opposite claim, so Pro didn't have any burden of proof other than to refute Con's arguments. But Con didn't offer any arguments, so Pro had nothing to refute. But, emospongebob527, you could've easily won this debate if you had just offered one argument supporting the opposite claim. It didn't even have to be a good one.

Voters?

I thought per rules of debate, the instigator has the BOP unless he/she shifts the BOP to the contender or claims it is shared.

Reasons for voting decision: As stated by Ryu, as emosponge was PRO for the resolution, the BOP actually rested on him. CON actually presented an argument, although weak in the very first round. Conduct to CON because PRO called him a numnut in R2 and arguments to CON because he actually presented arguments.

Reasons for voting decision: BOP is usually put on pro unless stayed otherwise. But as neither presented an argument, no points given.

Reasons for voting decision: Utterly pointless debate. However, the Pro has indeed used his typical filibuster tactic, to try to earn a win by distracting the opponent into not making a case, then invoking the audience to vote for him. I therefore award Conduct to the Con, even though they're both idiots.

Reasons for voting decision: I'm voting to tie this--nobody should win this debate. In fact, both debaters should probably lose.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro could have won this debate on conduct since Con refused to offer any arguments when the BoP was on him. But Pro called Con "numnuts," which was also bad conduct. They both had bad conduct, so that cancelled things out. It's hard to decide on who had the more convincing argumenst since neither side offered any arguments at all. But is it fair to fault Pro for not offering any arguments since he had none to respond to, and Con had the BoP? I dunno.

Reasons for voting decision: neither presented an argument, but since Pro was the one meant to argue FOR religion being a drug, the BOP actually rested on him, not con. Since Con never established this, though, I've decided to tie arguments. Conduct to con due to Pro's needless insult.
