Gettin' back in the game.

R1 is only for acceptance, and if you have questions, please address them in the comments first before accepting. R4 is for final arguments and conclusions.

BOP is shared. PRO will affirm the resolution and argue that Obama deserves to be reelected. CON will negate the resolution and argue that Obama does not deserve to be reelected.

Resolution is crystal clear - So please, no semantics. Standard debating ethics will apply. I expect the voters to be unbiased and vote responsibly and not be sidetracked by their party ideologies. Thanks.

Good luck to the future contender!

I'd like to debate this topic.
I accept your offer, sir.

I welcome and look forward to the opportunity to debate this topic with my new opponent.
Debate Round No. 1

I thank my opponent for accepting the challenge and wish him luck.

In 2007, Barack Obama announced his campaign for president in 2008, where he vowed to improve America for the better; a new ‘Hope’ for America, a big ‘Change’ for America, by prioritizing several important issues like the economy, equality/civil rights, foreign policy, etc. In the past 3 years, he has seriously kept most of his promises. I will be arguing some of Pres. Obama’s accomplishments, and will be presenting cases as to why he needs to become president again.

PolitiFact is a website that tracks around 500 campaign promises of Barack Obama (1). According to their latest statistics, he’s kept 173 promises, has compromised 52, has broken 63, has stalled 67 and 151 promises are currently in the works.

Now, Barack Obama is obviously not perfect which is why a low number of his promises were broken. Obama compromised 52, but this is a must in politics. Even though Obama settled these without a desirable result, it was still technically upheld and supported. Bottomline, the president has maintained 225 promises and has only broken 63. And you have to admit, he did a good job trying to accomplish his vows. A number of promises have yet to be accomplished, and it’s clear that Obama’s job is not yet done. He’s still determined to work hard and actively succeed to keep his commitment. Obama’s record is spectacular and amazing, and it’s more likely that by 2016, Obama’s word of honor would attain a good outcome.

Foreign Issues

In regards to the war in Iraq & Afghanistan, Barack Obama fulfilled his campaign promise to end US attendance to Iraq, by withdrawing all US troops starting 2010, eventually finalizing retreat last December. It was an agile end to a war that never should’ve happened (2) (3) (4).

Obama made the right decision to refocus on the war in Afghanistan, in 2009, the president sent 30K additional troops to Afghanistan. A new strategy made to improve the mission to stop al-Quada terrorists (5) (6) (7).

The president also improved his vow to stop terrorists by training and strengthening the military of Afghanistan, which is still on the process and going on nicely (8) (9).

Obama succeeded on eliminating one of the greatest threats to the world, and this is probably one of his most successful accomplishments in regards to foreign policy; the killing of the notorious al-Quada leader, Osama Bin Laden, which helps national security (10). In May of last year, the president said this statement that was heard by the world (11):

Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda, and a terrorist who's responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.

Bush failed in his 8 years of presidency, and this assassination was one of his top priorities. Obama took 2 years. Pretty impressive.

Domestic & Social Issues

Obama is a champion of equality, a hero in valuing human, civil rights, especially promoting equal rights for the LGBT community. In regards to this issue, he repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy (DADT), a military policy that prohibits gays from serving openly in the military, an obvious discrimination bill that breaches equal privileges to gays. (12). In addition, Obama improved hate crime legislation by signing the Matthew Shepard act, which makes assault based on sexual orientation a federal crime and gives authorities more power to enforce these laws. It also funds state agencies to investigate and prosecute said crimes (13).

Obama also cut spending on abstinence-only education and aimed for a better, more secure teaching of safe sex (14).

Moving on to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) or Obamacare, in his campaign, Obama promised universal health care to all before his term ends. He triumphantly kept his promise. This policy is a great policy because it gives minorities affordable privileges to good health. Obama also cracked down companies that ignore and abuse clients who seek insurance, he pursued against companies that deny certain people health insurances (15).

Next issue is Obamacare’s contraception mandate, which is highly beneficial to women since it supports women’s rights to choose and privacy. It requires employers to give financial aid to their employees (16).

Barack Obama also promised the end of the usage of torture in interrogations (17) (18).

Compared to other presidential candidates, Obama is more competent, rational and intelligent. He is a liberal, a highly sublimely qualified person who’s well educated, a graduate from two Ivy League schools (Columbia & Harvard), he is a lawyer, a constitutional scholar and a law professor. Compare him to a radical right-winged fundamentalist, or to a greedy corporate-loving person who cares more about money than the minority, or to a crazy, racist libertarian who only gets votes by the majority of druggie juveniles, or a hypocrite who values family values yet was divorced 3 times and wants to colonize the moon.

Since I'm somewhat busy IRL and I’m running out of time, I'm afraid I have to stop here. I will be addressing accomplishments of Obama in regards to the economy, on how we survived the Great Recession, on how he superiorly fixed the economy and improved jobs.

I await your response.
