Resolved: Developing countries should prioritize environmental protection over resource extraction w
Debate Rounds (3)
As developing countries, the only thing on this debate that will bring them money and development is resource extraction.
By extracting natural resources, these countries can export them to make profit and be more competitive in the national market.
Example: (America/England)- Agricultural Revolution then to Industrial Revolution
Firstly, agricultural revolution came first because industrialism requires technology. And with the technology that is available to humanity right now, industrial is probably the way to go. Agricultural resources are not enough for all of us, so through industrialism we managed to produce more resources needed in our daily life.
That doesn't mean that we should ignore agriculture. But to prioritize it, at least in my opinion is not the way to go.
Yes, developed countries firstly focused on agriculture, and then came industrialism. That happened because of technological progress. And since we have the technology available to us, why not use it to produce resources faster and more reliably?
Still-Developing countries will follow the same route, the same path, as England and America. By prioritizing environmental protection, we are using resources that could be used for something more useful and faster and easier to produce, thanks to industrialization and technological progress.
Resource extraction is critical to technological advance and to us being able to fund multiple operations, operate factories and power plants, use the resources to make different products that will make life easier and much more.
Still, the environment is not at great risk. For example, people argue that by cutting trees to produce paper and other materials, we destroy the environment. If this is what you sir were going for, here's what happens. Trees are cut from certain zones, which zones include large portions of forests, which are being cut down for wood, but are also replanted so that trees can grow again, and they can keep collection wood. In fact, tree population is growing fast, sources saying that tree population doubles every 20-500 years.
My point is that by focusing on environmental protection is actually wasting time, effort and resources, since its not that big of a deal. At the other hand, focusing on resource extraction will lead to further technological progress, and the human species will advance forward. Focusing on environmental protection will only slow our progress down.
