I would like to thank triangle.128k for accepting this debate ahead of time.

This is a debate about whether or not pornography should be banned in all 50 US states. NOT about the punishment for violating such crime.

United States Federal Government- The United States Federal Government is established by the US Constitution. The Federal Government shares sovereignty over the United Sates with the individual governments of the States of US. The Federal government has three branches: i) the legislature, which is the US Congress, ii) Executive, comprised of the President and Vice president of the US and iii) Judiciary. The US Constitution prescribes a system of separation of powers and ‘checks and balances’ for the smooth functioning of all the three branches of the Federal Government. The US Constitution limits the powers of the Federal Government to the powers assigned to it; all powers not expressly assigned to the Federal Government are reserved to the States or to the people. Contention 1: Porn Reduces Crime

"The bottom line on these experiments is, "More Net access [Porn], less rape." A 10 percent increase in Net access yields about a 7.3 percent decrease in reported rapes." [1]

We can see in this first hand case that as people gain more access to porn there is less rape and sexual offense crimes. This is a key factor in this debate as we see that if Porn does anything it keeps our hormones in check by masterbation to God knows whatever the user is wanting to watch and in turn it ensures that they are less likely to go out and rape said "type."

"Results from the Czech Republic showed, as seen everywhere else studied (Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sweden, USA), that rape and other sex crimes have not increased following the legalization and wide availability of pornography. In addition, the study found that the incidence of child sex abuse has fallen since 1989, when child pornography became readily accessible -- a phenomenon also seen in Denmark and Japan." [2]

Adding to the above point we can still see that in application in other areas that once again we can see that in valid areas and application that child sexual abuse has decreased so not only are we seeing a drop in rape, but also child abuse.

"the incidence of rape in the United States has declined 85% in the past 25 years while access to pornography has become freely available to teenagers and adults." [3]

Praise God that, once again, rape is dropping here in the US and when we ask the question as to why it's porn. We can see that this is key to get out as it leads to an 85% drop in rape. The Disaster Center found that the states with the lowest porn watching ratings have at rape ratio of 53% per Capita increase in rape while for the four highest porn watching ratio found a 27% decrease in rape. [4] Let's face it guys. The evidence shows that porn lowers rape.

Contention 2: Free Speech

The first Amendment-"protects the right to freedom of religion and freedom of expression from government interference. "

"Despite popular misunderstanding the right to freedom of the press guaranteed by the first amendment is not very different from the right to freedom of speech. It allows an individual to express themselves through publication and dissemination." [7]

The internet counts as a dissemination. [8] Thus we can see that it would be unConstitutional for the US to ban pornography under the grounds of it would be a violation of our free speech and freedom of the press.

Contention 3: Economy

"The statistics are truly staggering. According to compiled numbers from respected news and research organizations, every second $3,075.64 is being spent on pornography." [5]

By God look at that power surge. It's no wounder that the porn industry is the most profitable at $14 billion per year. Researchers have done an estimate and they have found that banning this industry would be devestating and shrink our economy by $10 Billion! [6]

A. How pornography works

Porn can be dangerously rewarding as it hijacks the brain's reward system. Pornography can cause a cycle of addiction because to simply put it, evolution has not prepares us for porn. Watching pornography can stimulate the brain's reward chemicals such as dopamine, serotonin, endorphins and etc. However, there is a severely large amount of porn on the internet and it can be accessed very easily. Your unconcious mind would view the people in pornography clips as potential mates to pass on genes. This is of course is not true of course but our unconcious mind doesn't know that. If someone gets bored of one pornography clip, they can keep finding more and more to sustain their release of reward chemicals. The problem is that it releases way too much of certain reward chemicals which can be a problem. Due to pornography releasing so many reward chemicals, it drains the brain's supply of reward chemicals at a faster rate than the brain generates reward chemicals. Because of this, your brain will release less reward chemicals in day to day activites making life seem duller. One would also end up being more "dirty-minded" to put it due to the fact that they would find reality boring and rely on porn for a release of reward chemicals. Your brain also rewires itself in a bad way. In a way, porn works in a very similair way to certain drugs such as cocaine or narcotics. Many more-addictive and dangerous drugs cause similair effects to pornography. [1+2]

B. Effects of pornography

The addiction cycle I mentioned before causes a wide range of unpleasant effects. It can cause erectile dysfunction/sexual dysfunction in many. One study has shown that there has been an increasing number of sexual dysfuction rates since the internet came out. The only factor that could possibly play into this is pornography because it's unlikely other internet content could cause this. [1] Another study shows that there's a link between acadaemic scores and pornography consumption, an icnreased use of pronography consumption can lower academic scores. [2] The lower academic scores could possibly be from decreased dopamine in the brain. A release of dopamine can lead to extra motivation to do certain things. [3] A lot of dopamine is drained when watching pronography thus leading to a deprivition of motivation to do things. Less motivation would cause one to be more lazy and less hard-working to be successful in the long run. Another study shows that pronography causes in increased chance/number of sex-related crimes. [4] It may also lead to more violent attitudes (likely due to a lack of reward chemicals in the brain) [8]

Pornography can also impact memory [5] as this study mentions:

"Some individuals report problems during and after Internet sex engagement, such as missing sleep and forgetting appointments, which are associated with negative life consequences. One mechanism potentially leading to these kinds of problems is that sexual arousal during Internet sex might interfere with working memory (WM) capacity, resulting in a neglect of relevant environmental information and therefore disadvantageous decision making... Results contribute to the view that indicators of sexual arousal due to pornographic picture processing interfere with WM performance."

Brain scans of pornography addicts also don't show positive results [6+7]. Numerous studies have shown brain scans of pornography addicts and it appears that it seems to have negative effects in the brain. It can effect stuff such as gray matter and cognitive function. It changes the brain's structure and causes addiction like mentioned earlier. Many people whom quit pornography also report positive effects such as more intense emotions and not finding life as dull as they used to. [9]

C. Pornography usage and rates of porn on the internet

Pornography on the internet is VERY common, one can find pornography for merely anything. One study suggests that 30% of the global web traffic is pornography. [1] Two infographics shows dangerously high rates of pornography consumption [2+3]. Much of the data may possibly even be false, many could be lying about pornorgraphy consumption and not admitting to it and even so, the numbers are high. Pornography usage is becoming way too common and has negative impacts on the brain. It would be best for the government to educate people about the dangerous of pornography and possibly ban it once many people are informed of it's dangers. If we have less people watching pornography, much of society would in general be more intelligent, hard working and less depressed.

Pornography is a threat and the US federal government should do what they can to prevent usage. A lot of the internet consists of porn and banning porn would "clean" the internet of such content. It would progress us as a country to lower pornography usage rates.

I do appologize for my last round folly, but I must now end the debate with my rebuttals and why I believe that I've won this debate.

Contention 1: Effects of Porn

Since my opponent's arguments all stem around it's health factors I shall argue that it's actually healthy and good for you over the net harm so we can see that through this argumentation that I would thus negate my opponent's argument.

As it turns out, according to a Dutch study of over 600 people, we have seen that people have seen an increase in self confidence and sexual satisfaction. [1] Next I would like to site a paper from the International Study of Law and Psycharatry, ""Indeed, the data reported and reviewed suggests that the thesis is myth and, if anything, there is an inverse causal relationship between an increase in pornography and sex crimes. Further, considering the findings of studies of community standards and wide spread usage of SEM [sexually explicit material], it is obvious that in local communities as nationally and internationally, porn is available, widely used and felt appropriate for voluntary adult consumption. If there is a consensus against pornography it is in regard to any SEM that involves children or minors in its production or consumption. Lastly we see that objections to erotic materials are often made on the basis of supposed actual, social or moral harm to women. No such cause and effect has been demonstrated with any negative consequence." [2]

Here we can see that there is NO corrilation between this said harm. This is shown as a massive break through and is key in this debate as the entirety of my opponent's arguments revolve around this supposed corrilation, which as I shown from a highly qualified source in an international study that it doesn't exist. You also can find out more about yourself. Many people have stated that the homosexual's first step in finding this out is through porn. We wouldn't want to destroy the family unit by not permitting this natural process to occur. We can also see that on the same ball field that it allows people to find out more about themselves on what they prefer and such. Jamie Woo has shown that through this and an exploration of this field can help a male or female find out what they would like to see from their significant other.

I appologize as I do not have a lot of response time so I'll have to cut it short here.

I thank you and please vote Con!

That's extremely insulting, not that you said I'm not on the level or Roy and Danielle, but that you said I'm not on the level of JMK and Romanii. By the way I am on the level of Danielle and Roy, but I don't expect anyone to know that.
