The dress code should be abolished so that the WNBA can be able to more successfully market their 'product' by allowing their women to wear more comfortable and attractive clothing during their contests. Revenues, including TV contracts, marketing, and ticket sales would drastically increase with the new outlook of the WNBA. The league would become much like what Women's Beach Volleyball is in the Olympics: The Conerstone of Entertainment. In this tough economic climate, the WNBA needs a boost.

Con

I don't think the WNBA is intended to objectify women; as far as I am aware, it is intended to be the Women's National Basketball Association. If you want to watch women in bikinis jumping around, then feel free to watch Women's Beach Volleyball; until then, I think that a lot of women are proud to be able to play in the WNBA, and I feel that they would more than object. If we abolish the dress code for more 'attractive' clothing, the WNBA will become more of a fashion show than a women's sport.

The WNBA is not a mainstream sport. Franchises keep folding and moving, attendance has dropped 20 percent since since its inception. The mere concept of the WNBA is inherently flawed, like someone opening an inferior sports bar right next to the best sports bar in town. Exception: Hooters. Look at any other women in sports that are famous: Anna Kournikova, Danica Patrick, Jennie Finch, Allison Stokke, or Brandi Chastain. In the words of Nickelback, "She didn't make it this far by just shakin han

Essentially, you're saying this: women can in no way play basketball, or any sport, and be taken seriously unless they degrade and shame themselves by turning into sex objects for the enjoyment of we men; So this is what you want voters to do: vote PRO because women are "inferior" (as you yourself imply), and can only get ahead by using their sexual talents. I say no: vote CON, because it's better to women to abolish the WNBA than to force them to stoop to the level of other women in sports.

Why shouldn't the players in the WNBA be on same 'level [as] other women in sports'? If women across sports are doing this to succeed, than what will happen to the WNBA if it does not conform? It will desolve, which is obviously bad. That mean over a thousand people will be without jobs, and there are no other sublemental womens leagues anywhere in the world. Furthermore, just to keep this debate interesting, can you name me one succesful women in sports how has not objectived herself?Just one.

Con

Just because "Everybody's doing it!" doesn't mean the WNBA should; women should be judged in sports based on merit. I don't object to a beautiful woman, but women in sports shouldn't have to be forced to objectify themselves for the sake of ratings; because that is what we call exploitation. What you're suggesting is that the WNBA either make its players sexier, or hit the road. Bottom line: Giving into the pressure of a hypersexual culture is not success; it is degrading and shameful.

You are not looking at the facts. If the WNBA does not do something to improve its TV ratings + marketing appeal: It will fold. Changings its dress code is a viable solution because its has been imperically proven to work in other womens sports worldwide. The sad truth is we can't judge these women for their 'talent' alone; the female compotion in basketball just can't stack up to the mens and the actual NBA. You have to VotePro, a ConVote will collapse the WNBA, and noone wants to see that.

Con

Vote CON based on this: "The sad truth is we can't judge these women for their 'talent' alone". Right there, the PRO declares that women are inferior; perhaps he can't judge them on merit, but you should. He doesn't address that women shouldn't be exploited for the sake of ratings and profit. He says "a ConVote will collapse the WNBA, and noone wants to see that." He's asking you to rob women of their dignity for entertainment; I say better to end the WNBA than to exploit and demean the players.

Only 3 1/2 days left. It's hard to believe it's been 4 weeks.

Pro's argument did not do much for me. I live in Knoxville and yes, we watch women's basketball. We love our Lady Vols, and we keep up with them in the WNBA. I cannot believe Pro is winning this debate. The WNBA is not doing well, but I see no need to sell out a sport and present women in bras and panties so money can be made. I would rather the organization fall than see hard working athletes reduced to plastic surgery to be considered a "top pick" in the WNBA draft. Hell, put models in there the basketball is not important, right?

And as far as the objectification of women, I was trying to argue that women were being forced to turn themselves into sex objects just so they could keep their jobs, ergo that is exploitation, ergo the WNBA should be abolished before the dress code is rescinded. It's not like there are no other jobs.

Hope that cleared up the vagueness of what I was saying.

I voted pro. He made a good point about WNBA collapsing leading to job loss without change which con dropped. This is the only real world impact in the round. Objectification of women is vague and con did not explain the specific disadvantages of this.

Both sides could have done much better jobs though. They failed to address opponent arguments.
