This is another debate. Here is the format of this "debate". In this round, I will say the riddle, and the opponent will try to guess. Please note, you can only pick one final answer. If I stump the opponent, i get seven points. And if the opponent gets it correct, he gets the seven points.
This is a classical riddle.
Riddle;
Three friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill
is $30, payable in advance. So, they each pay the clerk $10 and go to their
room. A few minutes later, the clerk realizes he has made an error and
overcharged the trio by $5. He asks the bellhop to return $5 to the 3 friends
who had just checked in. The bellhop sees this as an opportunity to make $2 as
he reasons that the three friends would have a tough time dividing $5 evenly
among them; so he decides to tell them that the clerk made a mistake of only $3,
giving a dollar back to each of the friends. He pockets the leftover $2 and
goes home for the day! Now, each of the three friends gets a dollar back, thus
they each paid $9 for the room which is a total of $27 for the night. We know
the bellhop pocketed $2 and adding that to the $27, you get $29, not $30 which
was originally spent. Where did the other dollar go????

This may be easy... but my friend asked me this and I didn't get it. So I'm seeing if The_Master_Riddler will get it Correct.

That's not possible.
25(rent)+3(money got back)+2(bellhopper took)= 30

They don't call me The_Master_Riddler for nothing.

Sadly, you are incorrect. The answer to this riddle was simple.
There is an initial $30 charge. It should have been $25, so $5 must be returned and accounted for. $3 is given to the 3 friends, $2 is kept by the bellhop - there you have the $5. The trick to this riddle is that the addition and subtraction are done at the wrong times to misdirect your thinking - and quite successfully for most. Each of the 3 friends did indeed pay $9, not $10, and as far as the friends are concerned, they paid $27 for the night. But we know that the clerk will tell us that they were charged only $25 and when you add the $3 returned with the $2 kept by the bellhop, you come up with $30.

Since he didn't get it right, I get all seven points.

Wait, I just indicated that there was still 30 dollars. I did solve the riddle. Nothing happened to the dollar. I proved that with the mathematical equation above in round one.

You both answered it wrong. CON needed to explain the theory behind where the $1 went. PRO didn't tell us where it went either. It's easy to add and do math, but that wasn't the riddle.

Sure the math was right, but you should be saying that the renters "believe" they paid $9 each. When in actuality one of them paid $8, the other $8, and the last $9. Then you can add the $3 returned and the $2 the bell-hop gets, equaling $30.

You shouldn't get anything for just saying "not possible," and giving us simple math without the theory behind it.

When I said it was not possible, I meant it under the context that the dollar was never missing. Duh! I was trying to say through the mathematical equation that there was an error in how much money there was. The Boss was infering in the first round that somehow there was 30 dollars first and now there is 29 dollars left. I was saying that it is not possible for the dollar to have gone missing under the circumstances given by The Boss.

But con, you still said it is impossible
