Debate Round No. 1

Thank you for your acceptance, this is my first debate ever, so we'll see how it goes.

First, to distinguish what success for America would be: A state in which the national debt is at a controlled level, as few military operations taking place as possible, and finally, a nation where unemployment is at a standard low and a free and prosperous economy.
Now, a brief history of Ron Paul:
He was an ObGyn who delivered 4,000 babies and is an Air Force veteran (the only candidate who served).
Paul represented Texas' 22nd district from 1976-1977 and 1979-1985. He then assumed office representing Texas' 14th district in 1997, where he currently serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology. He is known as the intellectual godfather of the Tea Party Movement and the modern libertarian movement.

Ron Paul is the best choice for President for three main reasons:

P1) Ron Paul advocates for smaller government, more personal liberties, and the following of the Constitution.

Currently, our nation is plagued by laws which hinder our personal freedoms. Section 213 of the Patriot Act allows for "Sneak and Peek" search warrants in which authorities can search a home or business without immediately notifying the target of a probe. Section 206 allows one wiretap authorization to cover multiple devices, eliminating the need for separate court authorizations for a suspect's cell phone, PC and Blackberry, for example. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) allows for indefinite detention of Americans if suspected to be terrorists. It is important that we elect a man who understands that the Constitution does not give the government the right to do thse things, and will promptly repeal these laws which invade our privacy and personal freedom.
Furthermore, Ron Paul understands that the Federal Government has overspent on the Drug War, over $8 billion this year alone. The Constitution does not give the government authority to dictate what substances our bodies take in, and it is certainly irrational for the government to spend that much money in the prevention. He also recognizes the unconstitutionality of military operations not declared by Congress, but more on that soon.

P2) Ron Paul’s monetary policies are the finest.

Ron Paul would deregulate our economy and work towards the ending of the Federal Reserve, which has inflated our currency by printing money freely as well as bailing out Wall Street bankers. His “Plan to Restore America” would cut significant spending. In his first year he will cut $1 trillion by eliminating five departments (Energy, HUD, Commerce, Interior, and Education). He will balance the budget by the end of his first term. Mitt Romney has the slogan “We have a moral responsibility to spend no more than we take in,” but Ron Paul is the only candidate who will actually act on this moral.

P3) Ron Paul’s foreign policy will end wasteful spending and return America to the world’s strongest nation- by example rather than force.

He promises to:

  • Make securing our borders the top national security priority.
  • Avoid long and expensive land wars that bankrupt our country by using constitutional means to capture or kill terrorist leaders who helped attack the U.S. and continue to plot further attacks.
  • Guarantee our intelligence community’s efforts are directed toward legitimate threats and not spying on innocent Americans through unconstitutional power grabs like the Patriot Act.
  • End the nation-building that is draining troop morale, increasing our debt, and sacrificing lives with no end in sight.
  • Follow the Constitution by asking Congress to declare war before one is waged.

Conclusion:

Ron Paul is our last true statesman, and it is time we restored America to a land of personal freedom and prosperity. I believe we can trust what he says because he has a history of fighting for what he believes in, to the point of being booed or laughed at. He has served the country not only in Congress for a very long time, but also in the military and also as an ObGyn. Thus, I urge a vote for Pro.

Thank you for your argument.

I have a bit different view of what success for America would be- A state in which the national debt is at a controlled leve, enough military operations as America needs, and finally, a nation where unemployment is at a standard low and a free and prosperous economy.

Rebuttals

P1) Ron Paul advocates for smaller government, more personal liberties, and the following of the Constitution.

"Currently, our nation is plagued by laws which hinder our personal freedoms. Section 213 of the Patriot Act allows for "Sneak and Peek" search .... freedom."
-We have the Patriot Act and the NDAA in order to capture terrorist. The reason for the Section 213 of the Patriot Act is that the terrorist will definitely try to run or fight back, if he or she is alerted to the incoming of the police. The wiretap is another example the governemt uses to keep their citizens safe. NDAA allows for indefinite detention of Americans, since that is what terrorists need. The governemt needs these type of laws to keep the citizens safe. Obama even stated that the language about detentions does not apply to US citizens.(1)
Here is even a link on the NDAA itself.
http://www.politicususa.com...

The find print states that Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities, relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States.

"Furthermore, Ron Paul understands ....... soon."
-The Drug War was for our own good. Ron Paul wants to legalize all types of drug (2). Ron Paul states "that it wasn't illegal in the 19th Century." BUT we have to take in to account that this is not the 19th century. When prohibition was repealed, per capita consumption increased three fold increasing the incidences of health, welfare and traffic related deaths related to alcoholism.
-"The war on drugs hasn't failed entirely, as the level of drug use was actually held in check for two decades until the Obama Administration allowed the proliferation of 'medical pot.'" Roger Morgan from the Coalition for a Drug Free California argues that "if the war on drugs had a failing, it is because 90% of our resources have been spent trying to interdict support ... while only 1% was spent on prevention." (2)

These minor points should not be the reason Ron Paul wants to minimaze the government size.

P2) Ron Paul’s monetary policies are the finest.

"Ron Paul would deregulate our economy and work towards the ending of the Federal Reserve, which has inflated our currency by printing money freely as well as bailing out Wall Street bankers. His “Plan to Restore America” would cut significant spending. In his first year he will cut $1 trillion by eliminating five departments (Energy, HUD, Commerce, Interior, and Education). He will balance the budget by the end of his first term. Mitt Romney has the slogan “We have a moral responsibility to spend no more than we take in,” but Ron Paul is the only candidate who will actually act on this moral."

-First, I will adress the importance of each department...

Energy (3)
-MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
-NUCLEAR SAFETY AND SECURITY
-SCIENCE & INNOVATION
-ENERGY
Overall the department for energy does its best to move forward in all these catergories for the benefit of America.
EX: only some of the information that proves the importance of department of energy.
http://energy.gov...

HUD (4)
-HUD’s mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. HUD is working to strengthen the housing market to bolster the economy and protect consumers; meet the need for quality affordable rental homes: utilize housing as a platform for improving quality of life; build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination; and transform the way HUD does business.

Commerce (5)
- The U.S. Department of Commerce promotes job creation, economic growth, sustainable development and improved standards of living for all Americans by working in partnership with businesses, universities, communities and our nation’s workers. The department touches the daily lives of the American people in many ways, with a wide range of responsibilities in the areas of trade, economic development, technology, entrepreneurship and business development, environmental stewardship, and statistical research and analysis.

I will countinue with the other two department in my next round due to the 8,000 character limit.

P3) Ron Paul’s foreign policy will end wasteful spending and return America to the world’s strongest nation- by example rather than force.

I will adress this in my next round due to the amount of rebuttals I need to write for this argument.

LASTLY

Ron Paul is our last true statesman, and it is time we restored America to a land of personal freedom and prosperity. I believe we can trust what he says because he has a history of fighting for what he believes in, to the point of being booed or laughed at. He has served the country not only in Congress for a very long time, but also in the military and also as an ObGyn. Thus, I urge a vote for Pro.

-Every president every ran for office wants to restore America, not only Ron Paul. We can't just believe someone because he fought in the war. Again, just because someone served for a long time in congress, military, and ObGyn does not allow him to be the president America needs.

RON PAUL IS NOT THE BEST Choice for President of United States.

He is the best choice, unfortunately, he most likely will not be. It's sad, I was really hoping he would be the Republican nominee. I know nothing is official until after the RNC, but we all know the Romney got the delegates required.
