This is a debate topic we used this week in my Writing Class. My teenage students will be posting their answers below.

The question itself is which would be more beneficial to humans in general, living in an urban area or residing in the country/rural setting. Both have their strengths and weaknesses; but for the sake of our first attempt at debate writing, my students were to focus on writing 3 pros for either side.

Living in an urban environment has some benefits like being close to things. Because of this you have to travel less. You also have more options for travel like bikes, trains and buses. When you travel less you have less expenses.

You also get the close neighbors. With close neighbors you could make good friends . Most importantly you have help in emergency.

The third pro of living in urban environment is entertainment options. You can do sports, movies and go out to eat. You can visit parks and area attractions. These are the benefits of urban life.

One of the biggest pro's I think is the freedom, as in urban areas it is more strict. Shooting guns, having big bone fires, fun exciting things like that. You would be able to do a lot of things on your big piece of land like, ATVing, snowmobiling adventures daring things.
The nature and wildlife in rural parts are amazing. Looking at the scenery, and be able to go creek swimming, or having a nice hunt can easily be the best day of your life. Rural living is a good way if you are an adventurous person that loves nature.
Rural living has a lot of seclusion, and big open land. You could expand your home or make extra things like a pool! As in urban areas everyone is usually tight and has little amount of land. 73% of Americans would choose big open lands, instead of tight compact yards that you have little room in.
