Essentially both countries have very socialist policies, both believe in a strong welfare state, both tax highly and have good public services... Yet how comes France is seemingly crumbling whilst Scandinavian countries aren't?

Could it be smaller populations, less regulation and more natural resources that have helped Scandinavia outperform not just France but the rest of Europe or does it stem from that Viking spirit?

Basically, you have compared one country over another on regards of just....well, you really didn't state why!

If that's what you are implying, no country is perfect. France isn't perfect by all means. Scandinavian countries might have some good benefits that France does't have, but France isn't lesser than Scandinavia.

If you ask me, both regions are great!

So, are you saying Scandinavia is better than France? How? Maybe they both are good countries!
Which they are.

Okay...I was just being nonsensical. I didn't mean that.

But it is rude to start a debate then never bother to respond

Cool your horses. There is absolutely no reason for you to react so harshly. Not one. you've written under 10 sentences in the entire debate. That in addition to the half a minute it took you to accept the debate means that you have at most lost perhaps 5 minutes of your life. Reacting to something is fine, but overreacting to something so insignificant is really not needed.

Trust me, Iceland isn't socialistic. We may have a much tighter community than most countries and we may pride ourselves on the land a lot, but economically we're capitalistic and politically we have the world's oldest parliamentary democracy that is still running. (Al"ingi was founded somewhere around 800-900) but I'd not consider us socialists by a long shot.

They are more socialist than any state which has called itself socialist. The countries which have called them selves socialist tend to actually be state-capitalism.

Denmark, Sweden and Norway are monarchies. So, we have "very socialist" kings and queens, now?

Ok in answer to your question I was referring to Nordic nations. Granted Iceland had an economic crash but it still recovered very quickly from it.

The Nordic countries and France are by no means socialist states. They simply have more left-leaning mixed economies.

Scandinavia is a geographical region; Not a state.
Scandinavia is composed of the three countries:
Denmark, Norway and Sweden along with the northen part of Finland.

The Nordic countries is then composed of
Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland as well as their autonomous regions; sometimes collectively referred to as Scandinavia albeit incorrect.

SO you really have to be a bit more specific if you want to debate on this.

Scandinavia is neither a country, nor a state.
