School Vouchers are one of the best options that our educational system has. This is a very simple argument: When there is competition quality goes up and price goes down. The education of our youth is too important to just maintain the status quo and not try new innovations so we may compete on a global stage. It is obvious to me and many others that our current Educational system is failing. And what better way to fix that problem then through freedom. Freedom for parents and students to choose where their money is spent. And freedom for the schools to be flexible and make changes that will make their school more attractive and in turn more successful.

Our Education system needs an overhaul I can agree. But In my opinion the most important changes that need to be made are within the schools themselves. And we need to readjust our tax payer money to address these changes. A school voucher system where parents have the option to choose which school their child attends if the school he is in right now is bad makes things worse.

The parents who do this are often the parents of the brightest kids. So School are suddenly being devoid of their brightest kids. And becuase schools get funded based on their performs, the funding for bad schools goes down. I don't think it makes logical sense. Here we have a situation where the school is suffering a lot of challenges. And how do we make things better, by having all their talent leave, and then cutting their finances. I think that is kicking a man while he's down, and that is adding insult to injury. Not only is the school under preforming but now we're going to stop funding you.

That is simply not the way to solve our problems.

Competition is great in a lot of levels. But the School Voucher system is adding competition in the wrong area. Instead we need to increase the salaries of teachers who are excellent at their work, a bonus for being good. TThat lets them know we value the people who make a difference. We give those bonus's only to a certain percentage of teachers, that causes competition. So we have now thousands of teachers who are struggling to be great at what they do, and what they do my friends is educate our young people of tomorrow.

Instead of trying to get money and talent to leave the under performing schools, we need to have money and talent trying to come into these under performing schools. And we do that by instead of trying to get good students to leave, to get good teachers to come. For the Teachers who receive the bonus for being excellent teachers we need to have them be illegible to receive another Bonus: a bonus for to switch to an under performing school. If we make the under performing schools the honey cone for good teachers we will see an impact in our educational system.

Competition is good but we need to focus our competition in the right place and on the right people. Instead of being reactive and trying by trying to get people out of a sicking boat, we need to be proactive and try to make sure that, that boat doesn't sink in the first place.

I am a fan of school vouchers because it puts money back into the parents hands where it should be. Money that they, in the first place, paid into the system. It gives us as Americans options. And, I'm not talking about options only to the wealthy. School vouchers ensure that the parents get back, in the form of a voucher, whatever would have been spent on their child at their original school. And then they get to choose the school that best meets their needs. So, this means several things.

First of all it ensures quality because school districts know that if they do not provide services that parents expect. Then they will loose not only students, but the money that is attached to each pupil. So in many cases this is a sink or swim situation. And I don't know why that scares us. I think it is perfectly healthy for poor schools to go under and great schools to flourish. However, this will not always be the case. Many times you will have schools that excels in one area and schools that excels in another, and both will be successful. So, it could work out either way.

I do agree with you that teachers should be paid based on performance. But, you must see that is exactly what school vouchers ensures. I will say it again, when schools must compete for business the students win. Because again, they have to market themselves to students and parents and start being held accountable.

That's what's wrong with government and schools in particular. There is no accountability, and this will ensure it. And it will allow parents to make decisions for their children based on what's best, not on where they happen to live.

Well for the record I'm still here.

I already made a big argument but I'm going to now just finish with a condense one.

Schools get funding depending on how they perform

By letting the best students leave that school, the funding will go down.

Taking funding away from a struggling school makes the situation worse.

As an alternative to vouchers I propose:

Monetary Bonus's for good teachers. If there are only a limited amount of bonus's there will be competition , competition means improved performance.

Pay raises for good teachers to teach in bad schools. If we can get inspirational people where we need them education will improve.

School Vouchers is not the solution it will be the problem. It's backwards of what we need to do. Instead of bringing talent into bad schools through teachers, we're taking talent out of the schools by the students. Instead of giving needy schools more funding, we're providing a way to take their funding away.

This is a good debate topic. Personally, I support the school voucher idea. As a matter of fact I'd love for it to go even farther - no school taxes and every family is responsible for sending their children to school privately. Take the socialism out of the American education system, ya know.
