Now a days kids/teenagers are careless and the whole sit out or detention after school thing is point less. I don't see why teachers think its okay to make students stay after school, and sit there unproductively and do nothing for a so call "detention". I find it a waste of time and I don't think it should be allowed.

I accept the debate and wish to prove that detention is viable in the schoolplace.

Since Con seems to make their first argument I shall introduce mine.

I. It's the student's fault for getting a detention.

Overall, the reason for the detention/the cause of the detention is entirely the student's fault. The teacher is merely there to enforce the rules set by the school administration and educate the students. If the students disrespect the teacher or do something to disrupt the teacher from doing their job, then the student totally deserves the detention.

II. Detention is designed to be a punishment.

Especially in the higher grade levels, students have lots of homework they have to do. If the student disrupts the class and ends up getting a detention, then the student will "reap what they sow" for a lack of better words, and they end up, because of their actions, not being able to do their homework or study for the set amount of time of the detention.

III. As a form of discipline, detentions help shape a student for the better.

Pretty much as the title says. If the detention is used properly, and as a form of discipline, it should prevent students from attempting poor behavior again. For some students this simply doesn't work, and further punishments have to be made. However, for the majority of students, one detention serves to be enough.

For the reasons above, detentions should exist, and be used in the schoolplace.

Hate when people forfeit...though it does give you free wins to improve your rank. If I had known about @Blade Of Truth earlier, I could have allowed him to reverse my ties to make some of them into legitimate wins and made the others remain as ties...

Some people prefer that. I'm assuming this is talking about ASD (after school detention), so that's where my points stand.

Interesting points, but I often got detention in middle school just so that I could avoid going outside for recces during the colder seasons.
