Basically, I'm saying that middle and high school libraries should have an online system so that students can reserve a book and come to school and know it is there, just like public libraries.

I know at my school that the only way to look up a book is to be in the library doing it. This makes it hard to know if a book is there or not and you are just wasting your time.

I'm interested in hearing what my opponent says. Thank you very much.

that would be all good and nice btu what if another student is searching for it that wasn't so lazy and got out of bed.

it should be first come fist serve.

i do not think its really pointful. it just wastes the library's budget on a website page a program and the hours it takes to program it.

the money instated should be spent on books not things to help the students have to do less work.

My opponent fails to see the benefits of this suggestion. Before countering your points jack999, what if a student has a book report due in two days. There is a list of three books the teacher can assign him to write a report on. He gets assigned the first book, he rushes to school so he can see if the book is there, and its not. He now has only one day to get the book from another library which might take a couple days and read it. If he would have been able to see if the book was at the school library before school started then he would have had more time to get the report done.

"that would be all good and nice btu what if another student is searching for it that wasn't so lazy and got out of bed."

Well then basically it is a use of resources. Who said that the kids that would use the internet were lazy. They are just smart. Do you go to the public library to see if a book is there? I just reserve it online.

"it should be first come fist serve."

If you are the first one to reserve the book online then it is first come first served.

"i do not think its really pointful."

This is your opinon and I respect it. But how is being able to search for a book and reserve it pointless?

"it just wastes the library's budget on a website page a program and the hours it takes to program it."

I know that many of the children in my school don't go to the school library because they can never be certain if the book they want is there. If they would be able to see that a trip to the library is not a waste of time then more kids would be reading.

"the money instated should be spent on books not things to help the students have to do less work."

Its not like they don't have to work to read the book, they still have to work it would just make it easier.

I look foward to your response, jack999.

As you can see, my opponent has failed to reply.

Almost every school already has a website that a staff person updates. It would not be hard to add a page for a hold/search the library. So it wouldn't really be a waste of money because most schools already have a webpage.

Thank you!!!

I can think of a good argument against this, but I'm not really interested in this debate topic so I'll let someone else take it :)
