Sex, its all around us there are two types of sex ed that schools teach. There is the way of abstinence and there is comprehensive sex ed.. So what's the difference? Is there an economic tie in..?? YES! It has been proved that schools that teach abstinence over comprehensive sex ed get paid more money from the government! This is outrageous! As a student I feel that depriving the youth of comprehensive sex ed only leads to questions.. Do you honestly think in the world we live in every sex question we have we are going to go running to our parents to ask.. The answer is no.. Most students are under the impression that parents are dumb and don't know anything and friends have all the answers! Newsflash your friends do not know anything.. By teaching Comprehensive sex ed in schools you learn the importance of safe sex. You are not told don't have sex till your married. Instead they teach you if you choose to have sex it is your decision but they teach you about condoms and birth control, and the uses of these items...Abstinence sex ed how ever is strict no sex until marriage..At this day in age it is nearly impossible to stay a virgin until you marry..through all the peer pressure its so crazy. Sex...Everyone is doing it and by putting comprehensive sex ed in schools we can save people from studs and educate people about sex..

You've just told us why we shouldn't have sex ed in schools. Our school system is not a competent investor in that area-- it prefers to fund abstinence-only to comprehensive programs.

Since we don't have a magic voodoo wand that makes schools smarter than they are-- and even if we did, that would be no compensation for the drastic awkwardness that distracts many students from even relatively valid sexual education programs, especially given that anyone trying to tailor the information to their peculiar needs by pointed questioning is revealing things that may make them a target for bullying--

Sexual education should take place outside of schools. Either A. The individual should be responsible for their own sexual education-- or B. Even the collectivist who wants state funded programs would have to concede that a smarter option than having sex in schools is handing out literature on the matter for the target audience to study, with a promise that if they can pass a test on it they get free condoms, lube, and porn. This provides an incentive that will ensure even the most doltish youngster educates themselves adequately, and with none of the awkwardness of studying the subject with those one studies less awkward subjects with every day. Either way, the resolution is successfully negated.

my argument was to put only comprehensive sex ed in schools epically at the high school level....How ever it is ridiculous how the government funds extra money to schools that only teach abstinence sex ed.. in the matter of education if you look in schools today that do not offer sex education there are many teens that are visibly pregnant.. So who does this fall back on the student, the parents, or the school?? The student for making the choice.. The parent for not teaching about sex out of school.. And lastly the school for not offering sex ed in the school.. Comprehensive sex ed neither promotes or puts down having sex..Comprehensive sex merely states if you choose to have sex this is the safe way to do it and alternates other than having sex.. Sex ed in schools is often looked at as a joke but in today's world epically with the economy most parents don't teach or think they have time to teach there children about sex .. So the school has rights to teach what should be taught

It is eminently obvious that my opponent did not read my arguments. My arguments stand unrebutted. Her second round remains addressed by my first-- I did not propose parents, I proposed another non-school option.

Saint Nick, the resolution said sex ed IN schools, not BY schools.

To Conor, because Pro actually won the debate. Con had 2 arguments and that was to let the students educate themselves which is what Pro was refuting, and "a smarter option than having sex in schools is handing out literature on the matter for the target audience to study, with a promise that if they can pass a test on it they get free condoms, lube, and porn. This provides an incentive that will ensure even the most doltish youngster educates themselves adequately." The problem is that this 2nd argument is no different than what pro is advocating....... it is still sex ed, except not hands on. It is still sex ed, just giving the students material instead of teaching it. Yet the school still funds it or hands out the material. So it seems as if Con did not argue against the resolution at all since he favors a form of school sex ed. Shockingly Pro gave a better argument.

Haven't the parents already proven their lack of knowledge of birth control?

Sex education is something parents should teach. Just like personal finance and balancing your check book. Parents are failing to do their job. I know the argument was made that kids won't go to their parents, but it is the parents that need to be proactive with their kids.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro didn't address Con's point, had several spelling mistakes, and was clearly poor in conduct (writing 'Newsflash' isn't exactly a sign of sportmanship, kt11223). Con however at least had a sign of rationality in this debate.
