Should Abortions be Outlawed?
Debate Rounds (5)
Now for my opening statement...
I believe that Abortions should be outlawed. Having an abortion should not be legal and they should never be encouraged.
http://www.babycenter.com... there are about 4million births each year. The CDC records that about 600 of those births result in the death of the mother. This is roughly .015%.
http://afterabortion.org... reports that more women die by abortion than by child birth.
And even after taking all of this into account we must realize that it is not just the Mothers life at stake here. It is also the child's. The real problem here is that most abortions are not done for the safety of the mother. They are done because people don't want to take on responsibilities.
Less than 1% of all abortions are done to save the mother. The rest are done purely out of selfishness or misguided thinking. Let's just stop for a second and do the math. If we had 1,000,000 (this is about how many abortions there are in one year) there would be around 1,000 mothers with complications max. Now if we exclude the many injuries that would be caused by the abortions there would be 1 million plus deaths for those who are pro-choice and almost zero deaths for those who are pro-life because all of these million babies would be alive today, and the few complications that arise would be dealt with using the necessary action to save the mother and do everything possible for the child.
The whole point of abortions being safer to me seems pointless. Pro-choice supporters are responsible for millions of deaths. And saying that being against abortions is less safe makes no sense. Just because your pro-life doesn't mean you can't protect the mother when complications arise. It simply means that you can't go and have your child killed during pregnancy.
Also what should the mother do if she was raped and becomes pregnant?? Are we supposed to force her to keep a baby that was conceived that way?? What would happen to the child once they are older??
'Abortion is the intentional termination of a pregnancy after conception. It allows women to put an end to their pregnancies, but involves killing the undeveloped embryo or fetus.'
Outlawing abortions simply means that no one should have the choice to purposefully kill a harmless child.
'Also what should the mother do if she was raped and becomes pregnant?? Are we supposed to force her to keep a baby that was conceived that way?? What would happen to the child once they are older??'
The circumstances of a pregnancy don't make a life any less valuable so why would should you be able to kill your child under these circumstances? As for what happens to the child, that differs from case to case. The mother can keep her child or put him/her up for adoption.
In conclusion, the intentional abortion of a child should be regarded as murder and should no longer be legal. Thank you.
It has also seemed throughout the debate that Con agrees with me that every other abortion should be made illegal. -Thank you
