Hey! We need to Save the African Elephants! Did you know the African Elephants have the biggest ears? People are hunting them down so they can cut of their trunks and sell them for money. They can live up to 70 years in the wild! The African elephants are the largest land animals on Earth. We would not want to loose an amazing creature like that would we?

Thank you for this debate, I'm a big fan of the African elephants and wish for all the luck in the world for their survival. Should African elephants go extinct - yes. Of all species that have existed on Earth, 99.9 percent are now extinct (www.pbs.org). From this statistic, we can conclude that extinction is the state or fact of being normal within this world. So there is no reason to expect African elephants to beat those odds and not go extinct.

No matter how much you care for or want to save African elephants - they are obligated by statistics to go extinct.

All life on earth that can not leave earth will go extinct. According to Universe Today - "we have less than a billion years to enjoy the surface of our planet before it becomes inhospitable". This is only because of the sun. Humans are doing a much better job at destroying this planet. So we can expect this mass extinction to be much early in the time line. Humans have taken over much of the habitat that African elephants once enjoyed. World Wild Life says "The elephants" range shrank from three million square miles in 1979 to just over one million square miles in 2007." It's only a short distance in the future before humans take over their entire habitat. So there might not be any "wild" African elephants left, but humans might still keep the species alive through captivity. Such a life in captivity could be debated at being worse than the African elephants going extinct.

Again the statistics of species not going extinct is almost impossible. It is certain the sun will eventually destroy this planet earth. Humans are the biggest threat to our planet right now and will cause many species to go extinct if not the entire life on earth. I think its a fair statement that African elephants should go extinct for those reasons.

Thanks again mattiedotson for starting this debate. What ever reason for forfeiting rounds, it's a great topic to discuss and to think about. With the warrants provided on my side - I do believe African elephants will go extinct.

Best Regards,
