Embryonic stem cells aren't alive.

Con

Per DDO customs, I will assume that the first round is for acceptance.

The burden of proof is upon Pro to affirm the resolution. I await Pro's arguments.

It appears Pro has chosen to forfeit. Nevertheless, I will make an argument.

A1: Embryonic Stem Cell Research is Immoral

Embryonic stem cell research is immoral because it takes potential human lives. There is a strong scientific consensus around the idea that life begins at conception. If this is so, it is unfair to eradicate a human being from having a life like ours as it takes away their ability to live, which was a right we were granted. In order to be fair and moral, it is proper that we consider other human lives as valuable as our own, and should do what we can to prevent lives from being taken away. Stem cell research can still be conducted by extracting cells from umbilical cord blood and placentas instead of deliberately destroying a human embryo.

How about umbilical cord stem cell and placenta stem cell research. That way we don't have to create a life to destroy it and we can save lives.
