Hello everyone. I'm mostly looking to have just a fun debate with someone so there's no need to get super technical about the debate procedures. If my opponent wants anything to be made a rule please point it out in your accepting round.

Now on to the subject. Futurama is a popular sci-fic cartoon show that is currently on Comedy Central. Sadly the network has opted to end it's contract with the show. This is a terrible idea and Futurama should remain on the air. It is extremely popular and has a fan base with millions of people and its only had 7 seasons. Sure that's a good run no doubt but nowhere near long enough for people to make the claim that the show is to old and needs to die out. There is still a lot more Futurama can offer us and the creators have already stated that they have enough material for several more seasons. Futurama is a great show that deserves to continue entertaining us. If only for a few more seasons. Also think about it. If we lose Futrama what does that leave us with? Family guy?! Good God!

I agree to my opponents terms, let's make this a fun debate, no technical mumbo jumbo.

Id like to start by thanking my opponent for accepting this debate. Here's hoping to a good debate. Its gona be fun on the bun.

All right first off Id like to point out that this is not the first time that Futurama has been canceled. The show used to belong to Fox network back when it was created in 1999. However in 2003 Fox made an enormous mistake when they decided to stop buying and airing future episodes. There were many reasons for this decision one of which was the simple incompetence of the Fox executives, who most of which had a general dislike of the show. There was also problems locking on to a regular airing time do to the ridicules amount of crappy shows that Fox felt necessary to throw in audiences faces (we've all seen the number of flop shows Fox has attempted over the years) as well as their sports sections taking precedence over the majority of their other shows. For 2 years Futurama only existed as reruns on the late night cartoon show Adult Swim, which is actually where I started watching the show. It was here that people noticed an enormous boost in the shows ratings. Futurama ended up being one of Adult Swims highest rated shows. In 2005, Comedy Central (CC) purchased the syndicate rights to the show and in 2006 season 5, 4 straight to dvd movies, aired. The movies were a huge success and do to this CC agreed to pick up 26 more episodes. When Futurama began airing regularly again in 2010 it helped CC achieve its highest rated night and its highest rated prime time in the networks history. Season seven was announced in 2011 and has been a smashing success over the last 2 years. Id like to point out that the current situation with CC isn't so much a cancellation but a discontinuation of CC repurchasing the contract. My point in all of this is that Futurama has already been canceled before. And the result was that it came back bigger, badder, and better then ever before. Fox really shot them selves in the foot with that move and missed out on a huge deal. Is Comedy Central about to do the same thing? Matt Groening and David Cohen are no strangers to this position and they have already announced on a CNN interview that they have "many more stories to tell" and enough material for several more seasons.

This brings me to my second point. Futurama has had seven seasons, 132 episodes, 4 straight to dvd movies, and a video game, a fan base in the 10s of millions, and one great revival. This is certainly a great run for any show and the cast and crew should be more then proud of their accomplishments. However that does not justified some peoples arguments that the show has gotten to old or has gone on long enough. Compared to the 11 seasons of Family Guy, 16 seasons for South Park, and a whopping 24 for the Simpson. This show is still relatively young and still deserves more time. And the Simpson's is Matt Groening's work so that can be used as direct evidence of how far he can take this show. Futurama has a extremely excellent, rich, and well written story and content and is more then the one interchangeable joke after the other like family guy or the darker more crude humor of south park. Futurama can easily produce several more seasons and with the success their previous work there really is no reason why they shouldn't. Iv heard several people say "well the shows good but we should just let the series die before the make a mistake or start getting crappy by trying to just stay alive". This is just flat out wrong since the show has already proven just how well they can go from being slightly under rated to an enormous success, their transition from Fox to Comedy Central, and as stated the writers of the show have already announced that they have plenty of material left. To say that the show should end because it might go bad later is just fear and speculation.

Last thing id like to touch on is just a real quick iteration of the things we would miss if we lost Futurama. Where else can we watch the head of Richard Nixon rule over earth as president? Where else can we see the in your face attitude of an alcoholic, criminal, smoking robot? Or a lobster alien with a Jewish accent performing surgeries with absolutely no idea what he's doing. Or the invasion of earth by an alien race because they missed a tv shows episode. Or my personnel favorite, the romantic and captivating (and hilarious) story of fry and leela that has not yet come to a close and was the primary reason I got into the show so much. Apart from how funny it is lol.

Well I think Ill rap it up there for now. Nice little short rant I guess lol. Best of luck to my opponent in his opening argument.
