Why not? Marriage is personal business, who is anyone to define what it is for others?Firstly, it is too personal thing. It is no one else's business if two men or two women want to get married. Two people of the same sex who love each other should be allowed to publicly celebrate their commitment and receive the same benefits of marriage as opposite sex couples. There is no such thing as traditional marriage. But the idea that homosexual marriage is at ALL emotionallly different from hetero marriage is absurd.
This is a topic of great debate. Do not believe that same sex marriage is okay because that is what Obama thinks and we should do whatever he says. No, it should not be allowed. The most probable reason that Obama approved gay marriage was to get their votes and win elections. In old newspapers, buildings were being sat on fire for people giving out their religious and moral views against gay marriage. Gay rights activists will discriminate against anyone who will not sanction homosexually or same-sex marriage. Is that what you want? Marriage is not a personal business. Marriage reflects the image of God, Christ, and the Church. The reflection is broken when gay marriage occurs, because God is against it and strongly opposes it. "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Cor 6:9-10). Not only does the Bible forbid same sex marriages, but tradition and nature prohibits it also. There is such a thing as traditional marriage (heterosexual marriage) which is how you were born, between man and woman. The concept of gay marriage is against every tradition known to the human race and is obviously against nature. Allowing same sex marriages will devalue real marriages.
We are not taking religion into consideration because gays and lesbians will exists always, our society can not escape from this fact, you said only about that it is a sin, but I am talking about their rights as a common people. Legalizing gay marriage will not harm heterosexual marriages or "family values." To some extent, I think that descriminating "such" people is the sin too. If you know, Massachusetts, which became the first state to legalize gay marriage in 2004, had the lowest divorce rate in the country in 2008. Allowing same-sex couples to marry will give them access to basic rights such as hospital visitation during an illness, taxation and inheritance rights, access to family health coverage, and protection in the event of the relationship ending. Marriage provides both physical and psychological health benefits and recent research suggests that refusing to allow same-sex couples to marry has resulted in harmful psychological effects.
I agree that homosexuality will exist for a long time, but homosexuality has many things to do with religion, so I do not see what the problem is? They do have some rights, except the fact they will not have the right to enter into heaven. Legalization of gay marriage does do some damage. In the state's interest, the government wants something to come out of the union like a baby. The more and more people convert to being gay, than the more and more the population will go down. In this case it would affect everyone, not just heterosexuals. I think discrimination is just as bad as you think it is, but sooner or later, it will be the non gays that will be discriminated against. Gay marriage will destroy the children's lives if the couple's adopt, they will only live with either father's or mothers. If the child only has a mother, than he/she may most likely lack something the father would have to teach the child and vise versa. The child may be forced to pick a side (maybe) depending on the parent. Children will never succeed without a male and female role model in the home. Marriage does provide both physical and psychological health benefits. In your so called research (where is your proof) that you did, I think it may be false. Refusing gay marriage means harmful psychological effects, the reason this is, is because more and more people are converting towards homosexuality.
Reasons for voting decision: Conduct to Pro because Con clearly used a straw man argument ("Do not believe that same sex marriage is okay because that is what Obama thinks and we should do whatever he says.")
Sources to Pro since Con did not cite many claims that would require it, while Pro had easily verifiable claims. ("In old newspapers, buildings were being sat on fire for people giving out their religious and moral views against gay marriage.") Other claims were sourced by the Bible, but all that that proves is that homosexuals won't go to heaven (if there is one), which bears no relevance to this debate.
Convincing arguments to Pro since Con made a very unbacked set of arguments,
