I think that it should be required because some kids don't like math, or history, or science or PE and feel like it is a pressure that they should, for entering in a good college or be successful, pass the rest of their lives working on that, and it is not true
I think that Music and Performing Arts should not be required. When music and preforming are a part of required school their will always be kids that are much better than others therefore making some kids feel like they are not good at anything. When kids feel like they are not good at anything they will not try to do anything . If music is outside of school the kids that are good at it can have all the fun they want with out making kids feel bad.
It is true that some kids may feel left over, but there are different clases, for beginners and for advanced, and they would stay with people in their level, making them not feel bad. About the activities outside the school, some kids cant afford it, and they need the school, it is their only chance.
This is true that some families can not afford music classes, but the school can offer music classes of kids that want it without making all kids participate in something thing they don't want to do. This class could be after school or even a elective during the school day.
