The royal family is irrelevant except for gossip mags. People born into a particular family on earth makes them qualified for what exactly? They all have to name their kids George or Charles or Elizabeth... they can't even choose names outside of their family lines. They live in palaces and wave at people from their limos or horse carriages. They are not democratically elected and even in the colonies they preside over, they only serve a ceremonial purpose instead of an actual one. I'm told a queen can sack a prime minister technically but even then they appoint a governor general to do their dirty work lest they seem like they are interfering. Every country should be a republic in my opinion. The old colonial idea of planting a flag in a new land and claiming it as their own is no longer relevant because there are no more undiscovered lands. Every country in the commonwealth rules themselves anyway as far as I know; so why have a ceremonial head of state living all the way in England?
