Police Officers should have a military style dress code because it would create a higher level of respect for not only themselves, but the government and country they serve in. Women should have to wear their hair up in buns and men should have to keep their facial hair nicely cut. Being that people look up to police officers as leaders of their city, they should keep up their appearance just like soldiers who are seen as leaders in our country.

The formal element of both police and military attire are similarly comprised of cleanliness, uniformity, and professionalism while allowing for showcasing of individual achievements and recognizing traditions. I agree that both the police and military have good reasons to continue those traditions and ceremonies that are used to recognize individual/group achievements and showcase respect, honor, and dignity for things like graduations, promotions, and funerals.
Therefore, I would like to limit the scope of my argument to duty attire only.

I believe that police officers shouldn't"t have to meet the same requirements in appearance that people serving in the military do because police officers should look like the members of the community that they serve. In this way the members of the community can better relate to the individuals whose job it is to protect them. In old TV shows you see old-timey sheriffs in cowboy boots and ten-gallon hats protecting their rural communities. This makes them relatable to the local populace, but if universal uniform requirements for police made that the social norm, there is no way that officers with said attire would be able to police urban communities.

Meanwhile military uniforms are generally designed to provide a tactical advantage by providing camouflage, fire retardation, and survivability aspects. But military service members also have a contractual obligation to adhere to the guidelines set by the United States government. Police officers, while also volunteers, are not contractually obligated to adhere to regulations and shouldn't"t be required to the same standard of dress code. There should be similar overlaps, but they should be the same sort of overlaps that you may find in a corporate work environment. Such as hygiene, and inoffensive attire and tattoos. Each branch of the military also has varying uniform requirements and standards with regards to tattoos. Police should have no restrictions on their individual choices for tattoos so long as they don"t represent hate groups.

Additionally, police officers shouldn't"t be required to be clean-shaven. Men in the military are not allowed to have beards, but this policy stems from the original reasoning that it prohibited a tight seal for protective masks in the event of chemical agents being used on the battlefield. A woman"s hairstyle should reflect the circumstances of her job, but not in such a way that it is unduly fair. Therefore length, style, texture, extensions, should be left as personal choices so long as they continue to be informed about potentially dangerous scenarios that occur with certain styles.

One word for you (UNIONS). Unfortunately the Unions allow for cops to become fat, lazy, stupid and then you get a bunch of retards who literally beat homeless handicapped people to death and get away with it because their f*ck#ng @$$h*les.

Once cities start replacing their unionized cops with private security, then they might start shaping up.
