This is a debate which could be referring to various countries around the world. I will however speak of two countries which I believe I know enough about.
Firstly, United States is one of them. Here, instant news reports are released which show us the mistreatment that police officers show towards ordinary citizens. In many cases those things could be prevented if the police officer felt that everything is being monitored. Also, having body cameras would mean that in cases of serious incidents, the material can be played back and judged.
In United Kingdom we also experience some racial issues and this mainly is known to take place in London, the capital. Here cases such as the Stephen Lawrence or Mark Duggan have been most known for their controversy.
Both countries seem to have a few things in common which means that if anything could resolve those issues, it could possibly in fact be such equipment.
Not only would it lead to easier and faster decision making but could help during court cases and so on.

Body cameras could help police cases extremely. If evidence is controversial than a camera could easily resolve the issue. Humans are not entirely reliable. We can lie, be bribed or just forgot. A camera cannot lie and is therefore more useful. People have been killed and/or wrongly arrested but that would not of happened or at least be found out who did it using body cameras. A final reason that body cameras could help an investigation is that you could go by frame by frame to look for details. If you see a license plate for one second you will most likely forget it or not get a clear image but a body camera could do that easily.
