I think it promotes ignorance, prejudice, and the slow advancement of science and medicine, as well as corruption in politics.

Religion should be banned as it's the root cause of many problems throughout the globe. Note, as I forgot to add in my earlier argument, I think practicing Religion is fine, and ONLY fine in a religious center (church, temple, etc...) but they should not be allowed to leave these places of worship for any reason. They also should not be pressed upon, or forced upon people who do not have the same views as you.

Religion has been involved in many cover ups (child abuse) especially with the Catholic church. Religion is also the reason for radical Islamic terrorists who not only threaten (and attack) Western civilization, but, though not only, people around them as well as genocides (Holocaust). Without religion none of these would happen, yes there would still be terrorists (though for different reasons and they probably would be nowhere near as severe). Genocides would probably still happen, though for other reasons and they're certainly wouldn't be as many of them.

Religion is also the reason for the slower advancement of science and medicine due to religious people who show absolutely no respect to themselves or their children who didn't ask to be treated poorly due to improper medical care. Yes I'm quite aware that the majority of people who are religious aren't like this, though some are and it causes deaths, diseases, etc... that could very well be preventable. Priests, etc... bait these desperate people into sending them money/do something else instead of getting the treatment they need. Sometimes this can go on for years of innocent, desperate, unsuspecting people sending thousands of dollars to these conmen to have "god cure them". Without religion this would never happen.

Science is also targeted here, as religious people question evolution and then they make faulty claims with NO proof supporting them as to why evolution (that has been proved to exist) does not exist. If the bible is proof that god exists (and what god does)...by that logic I suppose Marvel comics are proof that the Hulk and Ironman exist as well. These people do not support scientific advancements as it questions their beliefs.

The next and final topic I will be going over (for this round) is prejudice. Religion has promoted many type's of prejudice...from people in the Middle East being brainwashed to hate Westerners to Westerns automatically assuming all Muslims are terrorists, from Christians hating on Homosexuals for no reason other than their story book says to do. There are more types of prejudice but these are some of the main ones.

Without religion none of this would happen.

In my opinion, it should not. So many people have religion and have different reason in that. With some person, religion is driving force to live. Religion is not just pseudo or superstition. Although it is not real, religion has given people hope and love. I assure you, if religion is banned a religion war must happen. For protecting war, religion should not be banned.

A religion gives people something to believe in when things are tough or hard so they don't give up. Our country would be a lot less complete without religion.

Banning religion n is another level of extreme. Thats taking away what is considered a basic human right:

People in the Middle East hate the West, because their being bombed everyday. What's making people in the Middle East hate westerners is their relatives dying, not their religion.

The problem with these fools is that no rational person cares what they think.

Deepak, scientists are not looking for God just like they are not looking for spiderman. Scientist in general have no faith, apart from those scientists who are religious.
Faith means believing something to be true without evidence. Science is about explaining the world using theories and finding evidence to support and ultimately prove the theory. If there's no evidence, not enough or there's evidence proving the contrary the theory is abandoned.

No it should not, first of all the world religion is confusing, which religion, if one's suggesting Christianity then I have no say, and if not then what I believe the religion is about finding our the who the supreme power is by philosophical means. The scientists are also trying to find out what or who is god, what is the origin and what is the ultimate end is. They have their own faith. When they are going to find out what or who god is then they are going to worship him or it. It is all about The God. Now some ways of any religion can be not good or obsolete but the idea of banning it like banning any new idea. It is not prudent to reject any tenet.

Religion should not be banned. What people want to believe and practice in the privacy of their homes/holy places is their own business as long as they do not harm/bother others (including their own children).

It is not religion what is bad, it is the people who abuse it it. In an democracy where there's free press and unbiased education, orthodox religion doesn't stand a chance and is on its decline.
