Students should not be required to wear school uniforms. They are uncomfortable, and sometimes ugly. Students have to spend all their money on uniforms, and then all their other clothes are useless. They wouldn't be able to wear the clothes they already owned because they aren't allowed at their school except for on casual days. They should be able to freely dress as long as they don't dress inappropriately. Everyone should have the freedom to dress as they please. School uniforms might make your school look good, but make the students uncomfortable and unhappy.

First off I understand my opponent's argument and see how it may be understood.

I will now rebut my opponent:
People will always try to break the system, Jeggings and Sophies are good examples of this, no matter how hard you try someone will violate the dress code. Uniforms do not reduce the use of the student's alternate clothes, it will also make student's much more expressive through other means, which are generally more helpful to themselves than clothes. Uniforms may be expensive but no kid I know pays for their own uniforms. Also uniforms do not discourage freedom, there are often a variety of different styles with uniforms. With fashion trends, clothes that go out of style are as useless as clothes are with uniforms. If you are worried about the clothes being comfortable, wear an undershirt or something to make it more comfortable. If you (the reader) are worried about the "ugliness" of the clothes that is an aspect of vanity. Finally, the "comfortable, good-looking" clothes are often just as expensive or more expensive than the uniforms

I will now make my argument:
Uniforms are a form of school pride. If there were no uniforms people would infringe on the dress code and say they "didn't know" people do that anyway. With no uniforms clothes will not be a status symbol, and "ugly" clothes will not be a source of ridicule. People dressing the same or having certain marks of "individuality" could turn out to be gang symbols, uniforms prevent this. Uniforms encourage discipline. Uniforms make intruders stick out. They make former outcasts feel like they fit in.

I understand that most of the viewers are students who are against the uniforms and I would not be surprised if I lose.

bump this to 3 days and I'd consider playing devil's advocate.
