Many people complain about students leaving the classroom without teacher's consent, should they be able to leave the classroom without asking or not?

No they should not leave without permission of the teacher in case of an emergency or academic purposes. If there is a project going on where the teacher's thoughts are distracted and a student just leaves without saying something or writing something down, then the teacher could stop the project and not even notice that a student is gone and continue on. I know this might not seem important since a friend of a student can just fill him/her in, but what if it was for a grade and he/she just wasted some precious time to do whatever they want. Also If they just leave and the teacher doesn't notice they can do whatever they want and not learn anything academically like during the time a teacher is teaching a lesson. It would also cause confusion for the school in case something bad happens, like stealing from a locker, since people can just walk in and out of a classroom it would be much harder to pinpoint who was out at the time it happened. This might also encourage students to cut class and talk to their friends and walk around doing nothing. If it's a long term thing that happens it could lead to problems such as lack of responsibility, carelessness, and they start to feel as if they don't have to learn in class and they can have breaks.

I think you should tell the teacher where (and when) you are leaving. If you just run off, who knows where you are, except yourself and whoever you're hanging out with at that time?
