There should be more safety nets in baseball, because foul balls hurt kids all the time.

Safety is largely in part a responsibility of the kids playing the sport. They are required to sign waivers before they sign up that specifically state that the district is not responsible for any injuries that the students might succumb to. Should the students be ignorant, they will injure themselves, on their own fault, and their own fault only.

As for collateral damage, i.e. an audience member being injured, this is extremely unlikely. Standard nets are anywhere from 4' x 10' to a whopping 55' x 200' (1). The chance is MINIMAL that a stray ball should fly over a big enough net.
