We all know the cons outweigh the pros, a war will cause economic depression, and the pirates will have the advantage in every encounter. Politically: How would we declare the war to the world court? We would need a good reason, not just "I want a war so I can sink WC ships." Our reasoning would need to have some politics in it, and I see no reason we could declare war or even sue Whitecrest at this time. I am fairly sure all the admirals are against a war, and most of the people asking for them are low ranks and people who are not officially in the navy. People have also brought up hiring pirates to fight with us, this would cause bad press, the reddit would be flooded with "Verdantine hires pirates to do their dirty work for them in the war!" posts, and Whitecrest is already annoying enough as it is right now, we don't need to give them more fuel for these attacks. Even if we hired some and were able to keep it hidden, who is to say they won't attack us when we are in a bad position? I would rather have no allies than ones who can and will back-stab us whenever they want. Economically, traders would be stuck doing unsafe runs between Verd and Perth, going near Whitecrest in a trade ship would be a death wish, and taxes would be so high it would not be worth the risk. Only a few people with high crafting would even have a chance to get a coin out of the war, even then most of the navy is already stocked up on swords and flintlocks. Trade companies would be forced to become more military focused, and trade ships would become almost useless. People without many featherstones an only take about 30-40 round shot into a battle, a good marksman on a good ship can make those last for maybe 5 ships, fighting a navy and pirates would always put us at a disadvantage, we can beat 5 Whitecrest ships, sure, but what about the 2 more pirates that are going to ambush us on our trip back for supplies? All in all, war would cost us more than we could gain from it.
