Even though it saves some money, abortion shouldn't be legal in the U.S because you kill your infant when you have the choice of letting your child live.

Con

Accepted. Note that these are not my personal opinions but rather what I deem to be objective arguments in why abortion should be legal. My stance is largely devils advocate.

Legality of Abortion

-Freedom of choice.

One main reason as to why abortion should be legal in the U.S (and other countries) is freedom of choice. A females body is her own property, therefore it should be her decision whether she wishes to carry a baby to full term or not. Outlawing abortion would only serve to abolish a basic civil right that many women have fought hard to achieve.

-Cases of rape.

There are many examples in which pregnancy can be the result of rape or sexual abuse. If a woman/girl is raped and then becomes pregnant, naturally she should have the option of whether she wants to follow through with the pregnancy or not. Particularly in cases of incest, where the baby has a higher chance in being born with both physical and mental deformities.

-Failed contraception.

I'd note to Pro that pregnancy can happen to even those who do exercise precaution. The condom can easily tear, and there's even cases where women have become pregnant while taking the contraceptive pill.

-Danger to the woman's life.

When being pregnant and carrying the baby to full term could actually endanger the woman's life, abortion absolutely should be an available option.

-Abnormalities.

Alluding again to the case of pregnancy as a result of incest, if abnormalities are observed within the fetus then the woman should be able to chose whether she wants to continue the pregnancy. If a child that is born with abnormalities that cause extensive difficulty in its and the mothers life and impair its ability to function normally, then abortion may be the only logical option.

-Poverty.

If a woman without the means to financially provide for a child becomes pregnant (again, particularly in cases of coerced sex) then she should not be forced to have it. State benefits and quality of life for the child are both valid factors in why abortion in this instance may be advisable.

Seems like CONs main argument is for those who are molested and raped. In reality, if only those cases were the only legal means for abortions, 95% plus abortions would be eliminated. Also, currently only 1% of abortion is to save a mothers life.

So really over 90% of all abortions are by people who are not willing to take responsibilities for their actions and in so depriving the life of another human being.

Also, just because a child may have an abnormality, their life is still important. There are many individuals with abnormalities that have done great things.
