Con

Animals should not be kept in zoos because they are not treated fairly and are abused in zoos. Although some people think they are safe from harm in zoos, It may actually be proved that they are better off wild. The amount of stress put on animals is extremely unhealthy and they are abused by zookeepers and visitors everyday. So are they really better off caged?

I think animals are better off in zoos, I know it's not the best place for them but its better than them being scared of predators killing them, unlike in zoos where there separated from other animals. I know they need their hunting skills but in a zoo they don't they get free food paid for by the zoo!

While it is true that animals are safe from predators in zoos, the point to consider is that this is the way of life. Would you rather have them die unhappily in a cage or free, with their family? If animals are kept captive for too long they can lose the ability to hunt. Also, if they are bred captive for too long, the whole species will change, making it so they can't survive in the wild anymore.

Still a good point but animals don't have to worry in zoos and they are admired for what they do and how they do it wouldn't you like to be admired for who you are? In zoos animals can be and act how they want although they don't have as much freedom as in the wild they can feel more secure and shouldn't be afraid because all people do is admire them and observe how others AKA: animals feel!

It is true that animals are admired but that is not all. They get poked at, spit at and bothered all day long. Since they are locked up they cannot defend themselves. While being trained for shows, animals go through a lot. It is very stressful for them to complete some task and the zookeepers will force them to do tricks in till perfected. Is this the humane way to treat them?

Animals are meant to be who they are and in zoos they can be - being safe and admired nothing can stop them! They can do what ever they want and can't be judged, yes people can have their opinions but nothing can stop them! Their allowed to do whatever they want, each and every single animal can do something special and being in a zoo is just letting others see how special they are, they built zoos to keep animals safe trying to build an animal's habitat to live there and be safe in all ways. In zoos all their trying to do is help keep animals safe their just moving them to a safer place having people being able to see them is just another good thing about zoos!

Reasons for voting decision: Con was the one arguing against the status quo, so he had to convince me that animals shouldn't be kept in zoos. Since there wasn't any sources or examples of zoos being bad for animals given, this was pretty much a "he says she says" debate. I wasn't really convinced either way, but Pro didn't have to actually convince me of anything unlike con so he wins.
