This round is for acceptance and clarification only.

I accept. I define assisted suicide as the ending of one's life with the help of a physician. My only condition is that the person in question cannot have a terminal illness, or else that case would qualify as euthanasia.

I am opposed to assisted suicide because it allows someone to use a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

A person could be in a really dark place, their misery could be so great they couldn't bring themselves to see anything but the present, and how terrible the present is. People can be too occupied with their present problems to look at the possibilities for the future. Just because someone is depressed right now doesn't mean with help they can't get better. Once they are better, they'll look back at the time they were going to end their life, and be thankful they didn't. I myself know someone who would be dead now if not for help from me and others, and that person is very glad today that she isn't dead.

Think about it this way: You wouldn't let your buddy drive if he was stone cold drunk would you? I hope not, because his judgment is impaired, and he is likely to do things he'll regret later after his judgment is no longer impaired. The same can be said for suicide. If your buddy is extremely depressed, his judgment is extremely impaired, and any decisions he makes do not reflect the decision he would ordinarily make.

Depression can be solvable, and you owe it to the people around you to know when to take the decision away from them. People often say that it's their life therefore they can do what they want with it, however killing themselves may not reflect what they really want, it only reflects what their impaired self wants.

They'll thank you later.

Thanks for reading.

Reasons for voting decision: Con didn't have to do anything except post something to receive points on better arguments and on conduct. However, Con's arguments were good anyway. Really, when Pro conducts his debate in this manner, it would be far from a vote bomb to give almost every point to Con.

Reasons for voting decision: Conduct goes to Con since Pro forfeited multiple rounds. Argument goes to Con since Pro failed to provide one. S&G - tie, neither made mistakes in terms of S&G. Sources - tie, neither used any.
