Ok, searching for an alien planet is ah how can I put this nicely, stupid but smart. Smart where we will find a planet to go to if Earth or the Sun ends. Stupid cause if we destroyed one planet lets not destroys another one. Plus how on Earth and Heavenly Sky(weird) can we get there in the first place?

Although the search for an alien planet does sound fun and exciting, this idea has many faults. The first fault that I present is the cost of this project. We are already focused on the planet Mars and we are using millions of dollars on this project. Starting a new one would make focusing on both projects difficult and expensive. Another fault is that what if the planet we find has intelligent life? At first this sounds great, but think of all the other situations in history when this happened. When the Europeans came to North America, Native Americans lived and thrived on their land, but that changed. The Europeans took advantage of them and caused many problems. They brought sickness and war to the natives. What if this happens to us? What if we are in the Native's situation? This is why it is risky trying to find intelligent life. But what if we find unintelligent life? Lets say we come across a planet with thriving wildlife and a healthy food chain. Humans are known for disrupting nature's life cycle and has made many animals extinct. We don't want to harm any more animals, let alone ones on different planets.

Because my opponent has failed to create a second argument, I shall continue to rebuttal his first one. You say that it is smart where we will find a planet to go to if Earth or the sun "ends". Firstly, the sun will not end in our lifetime, it is said that the sun will end in approximately 2.8 billion years. By then, I'm certain that we would have created advanced technology to find a new solar system. Secondly, you say that we need to find a planet if Earth ends. Mars is the most ideal place next to Earth. Its close by, its cheaper to get to, and the temperature isn't completely inhabitable. Of course we will need to make warm shelters, but it's not like Jupiter or Uranus. Earth will last for a long time. We beat the bubonic plague and yellow fever. We are constantly adapting faster than ever and we will be able to solve most problems, making a search for an alien planet useless in this scenario.

Clearly my opponent has left this argument, therefore, I can't continue to rebuttal or bring up more points.

As my final point, I would like to bring up a summary of my previous points. A search for an alien planet would be extremely costly, not only that, we already have our neighboring planet Mars to be explored. Finding intelligent life could backfire and cause conflict. Humans are known for destructive behavior towards environment, so why do this to another planet. These are the reasons I bring to you. Thank you for your consideration.

Maximus_Wamson_IV, Although you do bring some good points, a search for an alien planet wouldn't be practical today. In fact the project would be unlikely until a long time. You also mentioned that this would bring us together as a species. This idea is admirable but there are many other peaceful alternatives that can be done. Instead of trying to fight off an alien race together, we could learn to build our selves to be stronger. Also, the idea of working together to fight aliens is very similar to fighting off a global and viral infection.

In search of an alien planet is justified in many different ways, if the sentient life their are diplomatic we could use their help to fix our own problems. If not say they're a warring society shoot first ask questions later type, it'll give humanity a new focus than on ourselves. Not saying I'm promoting war or genocide it's just humanity has many faults and a lot of those are based on us fighting one another, it'll unite us as a species. If the planet were not populated by aliens, I have to say we've learned a lot from destroying this planet we know what we've done to this earth everyone knows its taught to our children. Lesson learnt there mankind could start anew, but with advanced technology at our disposal we could make a better planet than we have now for future generations, they deserve that, that's something we all can agree on. To reach these distant planet we would need even better technology to truly unlock the human body, to master space travel, and to harness the laws of physics. It's a process a long process of getting our own issues together.
