Why is being gay such a big deal in today's society when it existed in ancient times? I would like someone to tell me what is so wrong with being gay. I will accept anyone willing to argue. Please do not take anything that is said personally in this debate. This is just a friendly debate.
It should be. Society has been running quite smoothly, yeah there were gays in the past but they hid for a reason. How do you explain a gay couple walking down the street to children? |

Why should it be? They were hiding because people ridiculed them and said mean and hurtful things. Just because they are gay does not make them any less then a human being. So many people fought for the little rights they do have so why is it that people still don't respect them. That is why we have the LGBT gay right movement. And even through all their struggles, they still have very few little rights. This might be a bad reference but if you have ever watched the show Spartacus, the Romans would all be considered gay then. The roman men who were portrayed strong and masculine were shown kissing men. The women would kiss each other when they said hi to each other or just because they felt like it. People did not consider that being gay in that time but we do. It existed so long ago why is it such a big deal now as we go on in life. Children growing up now in our societies know more than their parents know. Personally, there is a gay couple, two men, who live across the street from me and they have two kids and they seem like a happy family. If a child asked you why are there two men holding hands walking down the street you tell them the truth. Why hide your children from the truth, or their surroundings when they will eventually find out about it anyway. Wouldn't it be better off if you opened their eyes at a younger age so they don't speculate? What would you gain in keeping your children in the dark about gay people sooner or later then will grow up and find out what that is. Or would you be afraid of your child being gay because you explained what being gay means? If someone you knew close to you told you they were gay would you love them any less? For example your sister, or brother, cousin, niece nephew, etc. would you disown them? There are bigger issues in our society than who is gay in our society. It is ridiculous how people can focus so much attention on "being gay is wrong" "gay is not Gods way" "God put Adam and eve on earth not Adam and Adam", Sorry but the bible wasn't written by God himself. But lets not get into religion. Society changes everyday with so many things, but kissing the same sex or having sex with the same sex has existed for centuries. So why make it such a big deal today?

Being gay was a common thing and wasn't actually looked down upon until the book of Moses.
Saying they hid for a reason is possibly the rudest thing someone could say.
"Be yourself" is taught by parents and throughout schools starting at young ages. That's now being extremely hypocritical.
