Cell phiones should be allowed in school because they allow parents to contact their kids and allow the kids to contact parents or other people if an emergancy occers.
Cell phones can also be used to for class work because they allow students to look up research and use tools such as calculators.

It's true that cell phones allow kids to contact their parents, but you have to think of the other options. It's easy for a parent to call the office and let the office inform the child of the parent's message. That way is simpler and the cell phone isn't necessary. And if it's a family emergency a text on the phone is not the right way to do it. Just think about it, if your brother got in an accident, would you really want to find out by text? You also pointed out if there was an emergency cell phones would be needed. If there was an emergency there are phones in the classroom and often the teacher has a phone that are easily accessible to anyone in the classroom. The teacher is the most mature and adult of the situation, they would make the best judgement and make the right call before any student; making a cell phone unnecessary. Just think, do you think a kid can be calm enough to make a call in a dire situation? No. Besides the chance of an emergency is slight, in the United Sates there are roughly 2 shootings per year, there also are roughly 18 shark attacks per year. It's a better chance that you will be attacked by a shark so should we bring phones when we go out in the ocean? The chance of an emergency happening is low and if one were to happen the adults would be the ones to handle the situation. Also the tools you listed are almost always provided for the students and the cell phone may have it but it comes along with a lot more negative things. It's true that some schools may not have a calculator, but if the school's in that poor of an area, the students probably don't have smart phones that provide the tools.

My opponent said that parents who want to contact there children can use the front office. School offices do more than recieve calls from parents and are strained enough already. Having parents calling the school or going to the school is even more stain and the parent may be calling for a reason nonschool related, like to just check up on the student or to tell them they forgot their lunch. It is not the school office's place to take those kind of messages. My opponent also said that in an emergancy that there could be other phones in the room. Where? If cell phones are banned then there won't be any other phones in the room. My oppponent also said that the students could use the teacher's phone. Let's take a classroom of only 15 kids. The teacher must give his/her phone to everyone of those students and those students have no other way to contact someone. That is an huge strain on the teacher.

Good job, PRO. You are creating some strong arguments. CON, you need to make sure that you attempt to address each of the CON'S arguments and that you try to rebuild your case in the next rounds.
