Should cigarettes be banned from society? Why such a thing ? Many people participate in this act because of its addictive properties. Its their choice to abuse the substance . Nicotine is harmful but, same as eating too much salty foods is harmful. One should have control over themselves and not react in a way of indulging in an abundance of the product. Anyone 21 and older are able to legally obtain cigarettes in the NYC area, in that case we are all adults. We can monitor our intake on cigarettes. Even if one has an addiction to the tobacco in the cigarette, there are other ailments to aid the addiction, that may not be as harmful such as electronic cigarettes and nicotine patches. Several companies offer electronic cigarettes such as V2 Electronic Cigarettes, Vapor Fi, Mig Vapo, Halo Cigs, Apollo E- Cigs, South Beach Smoke, JUUL Vapor, and Revolver E-Cigs. E-Liquids are used to provide that illusion of enjoying a greatly yearned cigarette that every casual smoker enjoys but, just in a more naturally benefiting way. Other sources of getting nicotine are nicotine chewing gum, the nicotine transdermal patch, nasal sprays, inhalers, and lozenges. These sources can be used because of the side effects caused by smoking an actual cigarette/cigar as in , the tar residue that is left on ones finger after smoking staining them into a darker color, the cause of an odor in a smokers mouth causing the residue from the tar to be disposed on the tongue, gums , teeth , and may also cause body odors. In a sense of decreasing the hygienic side effects of smoking one can just use nicotine chewing gum, transdermal patch, nasal sprays, inhalers, and lozenges. This may be more benefiting despite the health properties and disadvantages remain when smoking cigarette verses nicotine chewing gum etc. Regardless if a smoker chooses to smoke or not they can make their own decisions on how to indulge in the thought of smoking a well desired cigarette.

Yea cigarettes should be banned from society. Smoking is harmful for your health and there is no safe way to smoke. Many of those chemicals that are in cigarettes are poisonous and are harmful from your body. Smoking cigarettes are bad for you. It is known to cause cancer of the nose, mouth, larynx, stomach, kidneys and bladder. These are long term effects that can impact your life for a long time and can stop you from doing things that you normally do. Some of those things are have difficulty talking, have the ability to eat regular food. Another effect smoking cigarettes is, it weakens your heart. This puts you in twice at risking from suffering from a heart attack or even a stroke. According to the CDC, a smoker is two to four times likely to suffer from coronary artery disease and stroke than a non-smoker. Someone who smoke is 25 times greater risk from suffering from lung cancer. Smoking is the largest cause of preventing death in the world. Smoking can affect your vision as well. It can increased the risk of developing cataract, optic nerve damage, all of which can lead to blindness. If this is something that we can prevent why not banned it from society. Banning this from society will save many lives. It is more likely for someone to have a healthier life to live and prevent them for damaging their organs. Why not banned something that have help you more than it can harm you.

That is correct , I agree smoking is harmful for your health but, anything in abundance is harmful for ones health. Its the persons option to take charge and make the decision if they should participate in the act of smoking cigarettes. Like I stated earlier , the smoker should be able to control themselves and not intake an abundance of the tobacco and try to not make smoking an addiction. Smoking is harmful to the body but, that's a great reason to enforce electronic cigarettes or nicotine patches as well. If one bans cigarettes so should junk food be banned, homelessness, pollution, gmo products etc. this shows that we all know whats wrong in society but, its our choice to make the final decision on what we may want for ourselves and what we want to be around. We cant run from from all problems in the world , we have to stand up and take charge and use our own best judgement and be strong. I feel banning it from society isnt solving the problem , that is more so patch work . Its is best to give the smokers something more reliable thats closest to cigarettes to depend on such as, electronic cigarettes and nicotine patches and give personal experiences from other addicts to start the process of alleviating cigarettes from the market . Same as carnivores that turn vegetarian/vegan there is vegetarian/vegan products that mimic the same foundation as a hamburger or steak . All Im saying there is steps before excavating something from existence as well as there are always other alternatives such as the ones i listened. According to http://www.pbs.org..., statistics say " Nearly 13% of US adults have tried electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes" . Also referring to this site, "More than half of people who attempted to stop smoking in the last year, or 55 percent, have lit up an e-cigarette and likely tried the electronic devices as an alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes". This data proves that smoking cigarettes should not be removed from society because there is no need for such action and if banning smoking cigarettes is the last result it should be a step by step process before relinquishing it.

I understand what you are saying. I understand that it is their choice to abuse this substance. Why not banned something that can help them. There are more disadvantages of smoking than advantages. The smoking age has got even younger over the years. The average age of smokers are between the ages of 20 to 44. This age is more than likely to try and quit smoking. According to research approximately 90% of all smokers start before the age of 18 and as young as 13.Someone under the legal age limit of buying cigarettes can still have access to them. They can get someone to get them for them and what about some stores that do not even check their id, which does happen. The cost of cigarettes are always increasing. Imagine how much money you could save when you stopped smoking. Why not put that money you buy for cigarettes to something that you need more. According to the American Lung Association, it cost the nation 333 billion per year in health care expenses. It is estimated that the average person in New York city alone is $3,300 per year. That may not seem like a lot of money to some people but that money can be put to other use. The money you can use from your cigarettes is paying off some debt, or even treating yourself to something that you always wanted. Saving this money per year can go to a down payment for a car or even to a house.

I hear your point as well. The store employees should push the fact that ID's need to be shown in order to purchase any form of drug. Also , there would be high taxation on cigarettes which generates money for the states and that is benefiting to the government and the producers . Spending the finances continuously on cigarettes can be strainulous on consumers because of the constant purchase of the product. I'm sure any addicted cigarette smoker factored in the cost of their addiction into their monthly needs because it's something they are use to especially if they have been using it for years. "In Fiscal Year 2010, the federal excise tax on cigarettes (currently $1.01 per pack) brought in $15.5 billion in revenue.Feb 28, 2011" according to the Daily Cancer site . This excerpt proves that the government is well benefited from the reparation that is gained from cigarettes. We are already in a recession . Can you believe how much money we will be losing then ? I think banning cigarettes is not a good idea and there are other resorts to solve the problem. Saving the money to purchase cigarettes for the consumers is a good idea but the producers which is the companies and overall the government is only making things worse for us a nation and a government. That will put America in a much more steep deficit then we are already residing in. In my opinion, cigarettes should stay and people should just know when to stop smoking and when
to stop indulging, just be mature and take comtrol of their actions.

I get that the government is well benefited from the reparation that is gained from cigarettes but there are other ways the government get money from. I do not think the money that we would loose from cigarettes will be bigger than the amount of health risk people can get. The smoking age is 18 years old, which to me is way too young. Smoking at this age can affect them in the long run. An 18 year old has their whole life ahead of them and can damage themselves. Not only does smoking cause cancer and other diseases. Like I said mention that amount of money you would save. You would be able to sleep better. Smokers are four times as likely to report feeling of unrested after a night sleep. Second hand smoke harming the people around you. Second hand smoke has the same harmful chemicals that smokers inhale. Beside you putting yourself at harm, you are putting someone else at risk as well. Second hand smoke is a serious health hazard is causes more than 41,000 death per year. As well as health effects like lung cancer, respiratory infections and asthma. Second hand smoke can also trigger a heart attack. Young children are most affected by second hand smoke and are the least able to avoid it. Studies show that children whose parents smoke ofter get sick, having more lung infections, are more likely to cough, wheeze, and have shortness of breath as well as ear infections. It is unfortunate that someone who does not smoke has to be effected by someone near you is smoking. Having cigarettes be banned from society can prevent smokers from smoking in restaurants, shopping centers, parks, schools. Having non smoking areas are just not enough, we need more than that. The longer the person has been smoking the harder it would be for them to quit. This is more bad for you than it is good. We want to be able to prevent one way that can be a little more healthier. I know there are only things in life that can have a bad affect on you. If it something that we can get rid of why not. Why not banned something that is not only people yourself at risk but the people around you as well.
