Thanks to Con for posting this debate. I"m excited to get into some real debating!

Just so we are on the same page, let me provide some definitions.

Paperback Book: A paperback (also known as softback or softcover) is a type of book characterized by a thick paper or paperboard cover, and often held together with glue rather than stitches or staples.

Digital Book: An electronic book (variously: e-book, eBook, e-Book, ebook, digital book, or even e-edition) is a book-length publication in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both, readable on computers or other electronic devices.

I am also going to infer that " to take over" means "to replace".

My resolution is that paperback books have disadvantages to digital books and no significant advantages to them, and therefore should be replaced by digital books. I believe I shoulder the BoP on this one as well, so I'll get into it.

Digital books are a relatively recent invention, but have been growing rapidly in popularity and tech. Lets take Kindle for example. The face of digital books. A Kindle e-book reader costs as low as $69 (for a relatively good one.) This device weights less than a paperback book, is more portable than a paperback book, has no screen glare, can download books in less than a minute, holds thousands of books, and has a digital library larger than any physical library. As you can see, the Kindle beats out paperback books in every department. Now lets talk about the price of digital books themselves. Many digital books are completely free and millions of others are as low priced as $4.99. This is much cheaper than the average paperback book. Simply look up any book on Amazon to compare. A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire: Book One By George R. R. Martin is only $4.99 as an e-book. It costs $9.89 as a paperback! This price is almost double! And keep in mind that the digital book version will never be destroyed or lost. I challenge my opponent to find A Game of Thrones book cheaper than $4.99 anywhere on the Internet.

I have shown that digital books have many advantages to paperback books, and, as of yet at least, no disadvantages are apparent. The resolution is affirmed. Off to Con.

Ergo, extend. The resolution has been affirmed. My opponent has done nothing to negate. The victory is mine.

Until a screen is invented that is as pleasing to look at, as easy to maneuver, and as easy to annotate as a book, books are going to be here. Tablets can do this but they can lose battery power and it takes longer to open things and annotate them. Pen and paper doesn't have a "loading time" nor does it need electricity to work.
