I think our elected leaders should be people that we look up to and respect so yes I think they should have college degrees for the most part. I really think you need to have a reasonable knowledge base to make informed decisions.

I accept! As you are the instigator, and have a point to prove, I will allow you to present your case first. While you are arguing, "Elected officials should have a college degree!", I will be arguing that voters' values and/or preferences should dictate the matter.

Good luck, and may you enjoy your first debates on this site. :)

I will rebut her opening statements in favor of "Elected officials should have a college degree."

My opponent provides no evidence that a college degree is necessary to be looked up to and respected. She presents no evidence that a college degree is necessary to have a reasonable knowledge base. Further, she realizes this lack of evidence, as she prefaces her statements with "I think", as opposed to sources or statistics.

While the burden is upon her to prove her case with evidence, I will go a step further and assert that I have evidence to the contrary. Here are counter-examples with sources: Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, Maya Angelou, and Albert Einstein did not complete college degrees, and were considered well-respected and knowledgeable people in their own times, and in ours[1][2][3][4]. I know many personal counter-examples, and I suspect voters will, too

Whether a candidate has a degree or not is also only one aspect of what they offer. Pro has not sufficiently justified why the power should be taken away from citizens to elect the Sheriff or President they believe is best.

Pro forfeited her case without presenting even a shred of evidence towards her burden of proof. As I've rebutted even the implications of her opening, and provided cited evidence to the contrary, please Vote Con.
