Football is a very brutal sport and should be banned from middle school and high school. First of all, football players in high school are more likely to get a concussion than college football players. Concussions can lead to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
My opponent will have to prove that the brain damage suffered from high school football(not all areas have middle schools) poses a serious long term risk to the players mental health. I argue that high school football poses no serious risk to mental health, and will address my opponents attempts to prove that it does. I also argue that football provides benefits that translate into the world after high school. Many studies have found that playing high school sports benefits individuals in the long run. A Cornell study concluded that " former student-athletes...possess relatively greater leadership ability as well as more self-confidence and self-respect than others and tend to demonstrate similar characteristics in addition to reporting greater pro social behavior late in life." Since 25% of all male student athletes play football, it is safe to say that football ingrains these advantages into its players.
