Of course, GTA 5 has all those kinds of discouragements. But, GTA 5 is also a game for kids that have lots of fun drivin around the city, costomizing cars and all that stuff. That, to be honest with you, is something that I like doing too. Kids also enjoy playing online with their friends. You probably might like that too if you were 12 years of age. Therefore, I think that this is something to pass on to others.

I will delineate how Pro has failed to meet his burden of proof and how his arguments do not get us from A to B -- B being the affirmation of the resolution.

Pro oversimplifies the "discouragements" in GTA 5. Let us not forget that GTA 5 is rated "M" for mature, meaning that people must be 17 years or older to purchase the game, or 18+ to purchase it elsewhere in the world [1. http://tinyurl.com...].

By discouragements, he means the sexual content -- you can visit a strip club -- drug dealing, killing of police officers, theft, swearing, blowing things up, etc. Children should not able to access games like this which promote and in fact encourage these types of illicit activites. In fact, you have to perform some combination of these in order to beat the game.

Pro also overlook the fact that these violent video games have been proven to lead to more aggressive behavior and angry feelings, but less empathy [2. http://tinyurl.com...]

I'm not anti GTA 5 nor did I link it to violence, but to aggressive behavior. And there's plenty of empirical data behind that, though none for your oxygen hypothetical.

This was, to some extent, Devil's Advocate. Do you honestly fault me for sourcing a credible study?

If i showed a study that oxygen causes cancer and says oxygen leads to cancer, I would be anti-oxygen.

I wish I could have such a debate (more elaborate) against the con....
I don't have any research to prove things but it's arguable what effect it does have on kids, no matter how much violence is shown. In society, you can't deny that people from the age of 14 and up constantly play violent video games just like they watch movies and have easy access to even porn sites.

I seriously doubt that GTA really matters then.

I never said that. I reported only what the study revealed.

Reasons for voting decision: Con provided one resource and they argued the antisocial nature of the game should not be exposed to children. The content is for mature audiences. Con made this case well.
