Should kids get a bodyguard if they get bullied?
East

Con

Kids should not have a bodyguard if they are bullied.

First off, there are all types of bullying including emotional bullying and verbal bullying [A]. While a bodyguard can protect you from physical bullies, they cannot stop people from bullying you in a non-physical way. They cannot prevent cyber bullying either.

To deal with bullies, government websites suggest talking to a trusted parent or adult [B]. An adult might know how to handle the situation better than a child or peer, which could prevent bullying once and for all rather than just in the mean time with a bodyguard around.

There are other ways to cope with bullying such as ignoring it, grinning and bearing it or outsmarting the bully [C]. By keeping a bodyguard around, it suggests physical strength and dominance is necessary in order to keep the peace. However the goal should be non-violent reactions to hostility. We should not encourage the idea that someone should bully another if there is nobody bigger and stronger around to protect them.

If the bully becomes aggressive, it's best the target stands up for themselves and learns self-defense. Rather than have a bodyguard around which makes them look weak, the bullying target should develop strength and skills. This will boost their self esteem, give them confidence and make bullies think twice about pushing them around in the future even if they are alone. They can rely on themselves which is a survival skill.

Not always, lots of times kids parents don't know what to do about it, they usually just leave it alone. One reason for that is because lots of parents/adults had the same bullying problem, and they didn't know what to do about it than. And even if you meet with someone who could possibly help you, it usually wouldn't help, or it does help, but it only last for a little bit!

Pro did not respond to my arguments. He dropped the point about body guards not being able to protect against non-physical threats. He dropped the point about bullying deterrence, and the goal being to stop bullying for good rather than just in the moment when the body guard is around. Pro also dropped the point about other methods of dealing with bullying. Finally Pro dropped my argument about the significance of self-defense.

I did not have the time to do the rest of my typing, sorry. But some kids can't get classes for self defense for various of issues. And I'm more on the topic of the "physical" type of bullying, sorry for not making this very clear! Best apologies!

No worries Pro but you have 3 days to make your arguments so there's no need to rush. If you want to continue this debate, you can address my arguments from the previous round of explain why you think kids need a bodyguard. You didn't explain who this bodyguard would be and other key questions either. Have a good day, let me know.
