Con

It shouldn't because it would make easier access to it and there would be more use of it especially with younger teenagers. Making it legal can go as far to affecting the "Cali life" stereotype by losing the populations and publicity of California.

Marijuana should be legalized in California as it will help in reducing organized crime, and boosting the economy. Thinking about it rationally we can see that the outlawing of cannabis has created a black market in which organized crime has used to make a lot of profit. By legalizing, regulating, and taxing marijuana we can stop the cash flow to organized crime and thus reduce it. All the while creating jobs and making money for the state in this already crumbling job market and terrible economy. Con has stated that the legalization of marijuana will cause an increase of accessibility to younger people, this is illogical as the only method of obtaining cannabis would be through a registered, licensed, dispensary; rather than from a dealer who doesn't care what age you are but is looking for money. Con has also stated that legalization will also lead to a decrease in publicity and the loss of the "cali life" stereotype. The evidence for this is quite limited as Marijuana has always been part of the California lifestyle[2] e.g. California was the first to state to legalize medicinal marijuana and tourism increased after the legalization of medical cannabis in 1996[1].

Pro

Since Con has forfeited this round I would just like to restate my previous points.

Legalization of Marijuana Will:

-Boost the Economy
-Increase Tourism
-Prevent Exposure to Minors
-Decrease Organize Crime

Due to the arguments that I have stated, and the refutation to Con's points that I have made,
I believe that it is in California's best interest to legalize marijuana.
