This is an open debate. My position is that vaccines do more good than harm, and that everybody should be vaccinated, unless you are allergic/have other health problems.

Obviously, I am looking for an anti-vax opponent, hopefully one who actually uses science instead of spewing conspiracy theories and self-experience. Oh, and by the way, I don't care what happened with your facebook friend. Unless he/she is a doctor, don't bother making an argument about it.

I thank Con for accepting my argument, and I wish him luck.

My argument on vaccines is not one without support. I have friends, family, and nearly the entire medical community by my side when I say, "Vaccinate your children!" To begin, I want to talk about the pros and cons of vaccines.

Pros:
There are numerous benefits to vaccinating our children, the most obvious one being that vaccinating your children will help protect them from dangerous diseases, such as chicken pox, measles, mumps, rubella, polio, tetanus, rabies, etc. etc. While some of these diseases may not seem like a big deal, getting sick is never a good thing. For example, let's take measles. Measles is a virus that causes 1 or 2 deaths in every 1000 (http://www.cdc.gov...). It can also cause permanent lung damage (pneumonia) and brain damage (encephalitis). That's just one of the vaccine-preventable diseases, and the others are even more severe. Take polio, for example. Polio can cause lifelong paralysis in the legs up. Imagine your beautiful and healthy child playing in a field. Now take that child, and constrict him to a wheelchair because you refused to vaccinate him. Vaccinations have so many benefits, it seems absurd not to use them.

Cons:
It is shown that serious side effects can occur. However, these side effects occur extremely rarely. For example, the MMR vaccine causes serious side effects every 1 in a million vaccinations (http://www.historyofvaccines.org...)! They can also cause allergic effects, but it is possible to get vaccines without the allergy-causing ingredients.

That is the reason why I want children to be vaccinated. It offers them protection from some of the most deadly disease. On top of that, the pros of vaccine vastly outweigh the cons.

Ok, that's fine with me. If you're not going to make an argument, then just forfeit your last round so I don't have to wait so long.

@Aussiewhitegirl Ouch, maybe some other day :/

@Mathgeekjoe Yes, but that's not what I'll be debating here.

@Rami That's ok, Rami. I actually have a lot of experience debating with anti-vaxxers. :)

Dam, wish I could have joined this, unfortunately I'm pro vax and can't think of enough anti-vax arguments to pretend to be anti-vax so I can't. Good luck though!

Most anti-vaxxers are ignorant to blatant facts, so really this debate is pointless.
