Religion and Politics should be separated because not everyone has the same religion and if religion and politics were to be mixed together everyone would have to be one certain religion and who would choose what religion that everyone is the country is going to go by? the president and wouldn't that give him a little too much power over us? That would somewhat be like having a king wouldn't it be? and besides that would violate something that it says in the Bible saying everyone has their own choice weather to believe or not to believe.
I accept they need to be separated to some extent ie no law should make you pray 5 times a day, women should not be guilty of adultery if she is raped. However what you suggest is total separation. This would be a mistake religion teaches us moral guidelines for example in the uk our law is based on the 10 commandments and is therefore impossible to separate totally politics and religion.
If what you say that in the uk you must follow the 10 commandments then you don't have a choice in religion. if I am not mistaken one of the Ten Commandments is you shall not praise anyone above our God therefore you do not have a choice in your religion
No what I said was the UK law was based on the 10 commandments not it was the 10 commandments. Most modern day countries do have you shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy, you must not kill ,you must not commit adultery ,you must not steal ,you must not give false evidence against your neighbour as the core values of there law.
Furthermore a lot of Politian"s endorse respect your father and mother and you must not be envious of your neighbour's goods. You shall not be envious of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbour. I feel these teaching are paramount for a better society and or society id governed by Politian"s therefore they must also embrace these religious values.
