Con

Religion is controlling much of the U.S. Should they lessen the iron hold?
ResponsiblyIrresponsible

Pro

I accept. CON leaves us with two resolutions, so I'm going to default to the one written within the round: Should [religion] lessen the iron hold?

As PRO I will argue that the control of religion should be reduced, while CON must argue that it ought not be. Since he hasn't offered any arguments defending this resolution, I need only provide one in order to win.

C1) Separation of church and state

References to God and religion are everywhere--on money, in schools, public buildings, most prominently on politics, and more. There are even states that bar atheists from holding public office. In reality, the government was set up such that there was a wall between church and state--in order to practice your religion, you must be free to do so, meaning you cannot have another religion imposed upon you. The same goes if you want to practice no religion at all, because the absence of that would be imposing a belief system upon you, which no one ought to have the right to do. Further, much like the Church in Galileo's day, religion hinders scientific progress, be it on cloning, stem-cell research, and more, all of which are necessary for future global competitiveness.

Therefore, vote PRO.

America is a democracy. People have the power. The more religious people there are, the more "religion" has power. The only way to change this is to end democracy in America. That, to me, seems like a bad idea.

Reasons for voting decision: This isn't even a debate. Its just Pro responding to a question. But seeing as Con put forward no argument at all, my vote goes to prop.
