Some people are desperately poor, living life by an inch to death. While others are sipping 3,000 dollar wine. I think if people who are richer should give more to the poor people in Africa in stuff. Its not fair people where born in the wrong family. kids from poor families usually dont have money to eat, which causes problems for their futures.

I have two problems with your idea;

One, rich having money is Darwinism at it's finest. THEY got to were they were, or their family got them where they were.

Now I don't full on support natural selection, it's just that, look at history:

Two of the richest men in their time, Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller started dirt poor, and flourished when they found success, because they new what it was like to work for a living. They new what it was like to be poor. If the rich just throw money at the poor, then the poor will become greedy, and would also not know how to hold their money. It could also eliminate future leaders of the world, because many musicians, authors, sports stars, even politicians started with nothing and worked their way to the top.

Also, giving direct money wouldn't help anything, it'd just allow them to buy what they want. They may end up having too much money for their own good, making them a target for their peers, and putting them in danger.

I get where your going, but lazy bums shouldn't get money, people who work as hard as possible to provide a family. Not everyone can go to poor to rich. There is less and less oppurtunity every day. Back then it was easier, there was less people, now there is not enough jobs for each person. People wouldn't get greedy, they probably can't afford bread, they would enjoy any amount. What's so wrong with helping a family out once in a while. They might even have a normal dinner for once.

Cash windfalls lead to greed. Eventually a poor family may figure out they have more money than they need to get by, so they spend it on something they don't need. Aside from homeless people, pretty much anyone can get by in this country, but giving handouts isn't going to solve anything. More time should be spent on education reform (and more donations need to be made to that, and things like health care), then just handouts to the poor. They're really not going to learn any lessons, and could be given a false sense of security, thinking that they can slack off because they get money. That's a big problem with welfare, because, sadly, a lot of people do slack off when they have something to fall back on (that's why rich people drink 3,000 dollar wine, because they have something to fall back on that they worked for)

People who are doing okay in this country shouldn't get money. Were only going to give poor people a little boost every 2 or 3 months.

We shouldn't give like a lot of money. Maybe like 1 quarter per day from people who are in good shape. People like millionaires should give like 5 dollars a day. The rest of the money can go to schools, public transportation, and health(which will probably be a lot). Only 1 percent of people in this world are rich. Those are the people who should give more to a nice family that desperately needs money because both parents are working 2 or 3 jobs or there house or apartment is being taken away. I don't want to waste my money on people who don't try. Studies have shown that 20 out of 100 people at schools can't afford food and rely on school lunches. Chances are if there poor they have free lunches.
DrAcula

Con

so are you going to force people to give this money? because there are a lot of rich people that may not want to give away their money, no matter how small it is. Plus, if 1% of people in the world is rich, you really wont get money to everyone, and if you try to, every poor family won't get a lot of money.

The rich have a right to say whether they're going to give to charity or not.

Most people who use the word communism can't define the term, or haven't ever read Marx. The comparison is true in this case.

Egh, you do realize that the pro opinion takes a communist standpoint. While communism at its core is a good idea for a perfect world, it is too easily corrupted and abused. Work can be found for nearly anyone if they are willing to work HARD ENOUGH to find it. Let us say, for example, that someone is extremely lazy and chooses to do nothing all day. Do you give them food and money out of a hardworking rich mans pocket? Do you let them continue to leech off of others as a mere parasite?
Con's argument, which I align with on this debate, refutes the pro without a doubt.

dracula is the only one here who debated - i vote for the person who won the "debate" (best arguments, etc.)

bigplayer just kind of says, we should, we should, we should because poverty is bad

like, thats fine, but answer dracula's arguments about why that wont work

alot of people support things like welfare, you can win this debate if you do the work

I'm giving it to the Con, on the clear fact that DrAcula presented the idea of education reform and other things which provides what the poor need most, not money, but opportunity. Nice job guys.
