Well I cant really think of any parent who wants there daughters to be given birth control by their teachers. As a parent it is your responsiblity to make decisions about your childrens lives. It is not the schools business whether a girl needs birth control or not. I mean if a girl is looking to have sex in 6th 7th or 8th grade then she needs to choose to be responsible enough to go to her parents. But what about the girls who don't want to have sex until they're married? If they were to change their mind then they should go to their parents. Let's be honest the ONLY reason that a middle school wants to give out birth control is so that that school looks really good. They arent doing it for the saftey of young girls they are doing it so that they're schools pregnancy rate goes down. We all know it but some naive parents are going to go along with it with out ANY of the facts. It isnt good for young girls like that to be on such a serious medication. Their bodies are still developing and to give them a drug like that could seriously change their body. Now that isnt going to make the school look very good when they are the ones that make young girls sick and maybe alter their ability to have children is it?

I understand that it is the parent's responsibility to talk to the child and I realize that it is the child's responsibility to go to the parent but that isn't the case for most girls. What about the children who's mothers don't care and don't talk to them? They will go out and have unprotected sex because they won't know any better. You can't trust the parent to talk to the child and you can't trust the child to talk to the parent. I believe birth control should be available.

I understand where your coming from but I really think that it is the parents responsibility. If a child doesnt feel like her mom is there she could talk to her dad or a older sister. I'm sure SOMEONE in her family is there for her. It shouldnt be a schools responsibility. If I was a parent I would sue the school if they tried to give my daughter birth control. They don't know the girls' history do they? They dont know her allergies or how her body reacts to medicine. Also, I think we can all admit that at some level the school wants to do it to make them look better. They're probaly thinking that " oh well lets do this " great deed" and we'll look 10 times better." It's ridiculose to think that a school would try to help girls just to make them look better. Birth control is a EXTREMLY drastic thing and for a school to try and step in when they dont truly know the girls is something that CANNOT take place. Just look at all these facts and then tell me I'm wrong.

No School has the right to give any medication to a child without parental permission . The schools won't allow your child to have a tylenol without your permission so I can't understand why they think it is okay for a child to be given birth control pills. Also birth control pills have side effects and can be dangerous and a parent needs to know what drugs their child has taken in case of any health emergency. I would own a school if they gave them to my child .
