Should shelters require animals be spayed and neutered? Or should the owner get to decide? I am pro ALL animals being spayed and neutered prior adoption.

Con

Many thanks to my opponent for the challenge.

I'm Con - The owner should be allowed to decide. I look forward to an interesting debate :)

Since my opponent has seemingly forfeited this debate, I'll keep my argument very brief.

If all animals were required to be neutered, breeders who do so for either love or profit would miss out on this opportunity. Pro hasn't explained why this is necessary or moral.

Legally, animals are considered property [1] and as such pet owners have the right to determine what to do with their property. Even if you don't think pets should be considered property, then you have conceded that there is no reason to necessarily neuter them. Pets don't voluntarily neuter themselves and cannot consent to it, so forcing it would be a violation of their rights. You must either accept their rights - in which case forced neutering would be wrong, or the pet owner's rights, in which inhibiting their right to NOT neuter their pets would be violated by implementing the resolution.

Hey sorry I didn't debate with you on the issue.
I had to debate with someone on this site as part of a grade for one of my classes.
When the class was over I just never logged back onto the site...

So soooo sorry for wasting your time!

Thanks again for debating with me though!

Reasons for voting decision: conduct for forfeit. arguments and sources because pro provided none and did nothing to refute cons arguments.
