No.

Extracurriculars do not facilitate social interaction. They simply dump kids into activities without showing them what it really takes to interact with peers. Many kids just end up going along for the ride and fill in menial roles which leaders in those activities don't want to do. They end up getting used as tools for others to cultivate "leadership" skills around.

This leads to a secondary problem where leadership becomes mutated in society. Instead of leading peers in genuinely celebrating who they are in the activity they're doing, leadership becomes directed towards being results-oriented and simply doing what it takes to get a job done. There is no heritage, narrative, story, culture, custom, or tradition when participants are forced to participate.

They also don't necessarily teach kids a hobby to get interested into. When kids are forced to participate, the hobby doesn't become a part of their lives. It just becomes a pain in the neck. Heck, lots of kids who participate in extracurriculars already are just going through the motions in order to keep up with appearances. Students need to appreciate what they're studying in order for it to count. Otherwise, it just leads to them questioning, "What am I going to need this for?"
